With Record Store Day this weekend, we’re taking a look back at a classic showdown from one of New York City’s most cherished and missed hip-hop hallmarks, Fatbeats. It was there in 2007 that Math (fresh off of his first controversial throwing of fisticuffs) and Iron Solomon (riding high from his battle with Jin) met in the music store for an all-time classic.
While some were predicting a style clash, the two at the top of their game managed to have great chemistry. This widely seen square-off lead to countless Math imitators that tried to emulate the way he addresses the camera. Such a stylistic choice made those in the store largely feel Solomon barely edged Math as the victor, but once it hit the then-emerging YouTube, Math’s style just played to the medium to perfection.
