"Rookies vs. Vets" Hype Builds As Th3 Saga Battles Prep

URL's small-room event in Harlem also saw Smack calling out Big T for a battle against Ty Law.

With its PG cuts mostly solidified, URL put on two events this past weekend to showcase the rising talent within the league. The New York City event featured a well-received battle between Prep and Th3 Saga, while the league's West Coast launch also got got rave reviews.

Much of the publicity surrounding the NYC event was transferred over to Big T thanks to a surprise call-out from Smack saying T should battle Ty Law on the upcoming "Rookies vs. Vets" card. Smack told Big T he had 24 hours to respond to the challenge and the aftermath is still playing out on Twitter.

Big T announced that he'd respond on Monday, and then Tuesday tweeted this in response to Ty Law:

We're still trying to figure out if that's confirmation.

UPDATE: Looks like T did accept, but only for "Rookies vs. Vets 2:"

Elsewhere, the hype for the March 28 card grew with a handful of preview vlogs and Chess coming face to face with DNA before their scheduled battle later this month.

BattleRap.com also reached out to URL staff Nunu Nellz for her take on the night:

We decided to bring what we call that "old Smack" feel back. One camera, a room full of people, no stage, no microphones, no big lights. Just bars, no gimmicks. The energy in the room was crazy, accompanied by the legendary Loaded Lux, wishing he would yell "I need to hear this" got me feeling like events like this need to and will happen more.

Prep vs. Th3 Saga, which was gonna be a one-rounder, turned into three rounds of two hungry emcees going head-to-head with non-stop punches. Nothing short of legendary. It's safe to compare this battle to JC vs. Chilla and Big T vs. Tsu Surf. If you watched those battles you will understand that what Prep and Th3 Saga did will be marked down as one of the greatest back and forth battles.

Tia.S (from WeGoHard) was calling out anyone in the building wiling to go toe-to-toe with her. Bonnie Godiva stepped up to the plate. It was the perfect balance of aggression, jokes, freestyle and haymakers. Although the vet Bonnie Godiva seemed to have taken the win, people should be on the lookout for the rising star Tia.S.

Though not in the building, John John Da Don also clowned Prep on Twitter ahead of their match-up:

URL's "Rookies vs. Vets" goes down Saturday, March 28 at the Gramercy Theatre at 127 E 23rd Street in New York. Doors are scheduled to open at 1:00 p.m.

Tickets are available here.
