During a recent appearance on MTV's Rap Fix Live, Slaughterhouse members were asked about a hypothetical cypher battle against Black Hippy.
"Say you guys were matched up against Black Hippy in a cypher," Rap Fix asked Slaughterhouse, "And you guys would just have to Rap Battle against each other, do you think they would stand a chance at beating you guys?"
Crooked I explained what that scenario might look like.
"It would be eight emcees going for theirs," Crooked I said. "People are gon' to say what they're gon' say. As soon as that song comes out, you're gonna have comments on the Internet like, 'This dude served that dude.'"
Rap Fix asked Crooked I a more general question around the topic.
Do you honestly believe there's a crew that can serve your crew?" Rap Fix asked.
"No, but let me tell you something," Crooked said. "That's not a shot. I really appreciate what they do, but as a rapper, I feel like I'm supposed to believe that when I get on the court that nobody can see me. That's just what I'm supposed to do, but that doesn't stop me from being a fan of other great lyricists."
Royce Da 5'9 also addressed the question, highlighting what he believes are stylistic differences between Slaughterhouse and Black Hippy.
"I don't think we pair up as easy," Royce said. "They do different things. I don't feel like we're in the same lane. I think we get compared to them because we're crews. But I'm not so sure that me and ScHoolboy could really go at each other. With what he does versus what I do, it's not really the same thing, so it would come down to a matter of preference."
Royce also said he would like for a Slaughterhouse-Black Hippy collaboration to come to fruition.
Slaughterhouse was at the show to announce a Battle Rap reality series, Road to Total Slaughter, which is set to pit eight Battle Rap emcees against one another.
In 2012, Joe Budden was asked about how he would feel about a Black Hippy-Slaughterhouse collaboration. Ab-Soul spoke about this as well in 2012. In that interview, Soul praised Slaughterhouse members as lyricists. In 2013, Crooked I addressed Joell Ortiz's response regarding Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse. In that interview, Crooked also spoke about a potential Black Hippy-Slaughterhouse collab.
