Dizaster Names NYC's Top Battlers, Says Loaded Lux "Didn't Evolve"

Dizaster stopped through #DXHQ and details why he hates ghostwriting in Hip Hop. He also lists his top New York battle rappers.

In an exclusive interview with BattleRap.com, Dizaster discusses Loaded Lux and Hollow Da Don’s highly anticipated battle during UW’s "High Stakes" earlier this year. While the Los Angeles, Californian is complimentary of Loaded Lux’s career and sites him as “one of the best of all time,” he also says Lux is one of the dudes that didn’t evolve.”

“I knew Hollow Da Don would smoke [Loaded Lux],” Diz says. He continues:

“I thought Hollow would kill him harder, to be honest with you. Lux is a great rapper. He’s incredible. He’s definitely one of the best of all time. He’s one of the dudes I looked up to when I first started battling. When he was one of the first dudes on Youtube, we were street battlers. We didn’t have people to look at—to look at their footage. I always look at him like a pioneer. I feel like he’s one of the dudes that didn’t evolve. He wasn’t able to evolve with the times. He has this style that makes him seem like he’s more evolved than people. But today, the way battlers are, sad to say—a lot of people can emulate that style easily. Some people could actually do it better than him if they wanted to. That legacy that he has kind of got tarnished when Hollow took a jab at it because that’s the first time he’s gone against somebody that’s fluid, that can respond to him. That’s a real emcee to me.”

Further emphasizing his point, Dizaster says that Hollow Da Don is New York’s #1 battle rapper, and that Charlie Clips is currently a better battle rapper than Loaded Lux. He also says that DNA deserves more respect even though he “makes freestyling look bad.”

“To me, Lux has never really had a real battle,” Dizaster says. “That was his first battle, you know. No disrespect to Mook and them, but that shit’s rehearsed, practicing in the schoolyard fucking weenie shit. That’s like Broadway acting. Like, ‘OK, I’m going to go get in the mirror. You go get in the mirror. We’ll meet up together and share our notepads together.’ That’s what it is to me. I come from a different school of battling than them. It’s the first time Lux deals with that and you saw how bad it affected him. That energy was all towards Lux in the room. Hollow was the underdog. So even in a more neutral situation, Lux would’ve got his ass beat worse.

“He’s lucky he was [in New Jersey] because I feel if he comes to the West Coast, or goes to Canada, or goes to England or any of those countries, people are not going to receive him the same,” Dizaster continues. “If they do, they’re fucking fronting and they’re gonna act like they understand him when they don’t. You have to be able to appeal to everybody. That’s why Hollow is the #1 dude in New York—not Lux. People need to start looking at it like that because that’s the reality of the situation. Then after Hollow, it’s not Lux either, it’s [Charlie Clips]. Clips is a real emcee. Those are the dudes that need to be given respect. DNA, also, but DNA sounds like a fucking moron. That’s why he makes freestyling look bad.”

Recently, Dizaster discussed why he feels Math Hoffa is afraid to battle in Los Angeles.
