European Politicians Rap For Votes

In Brussels, Belgium politicians gain help from the rap community to gain voters.

Usually to gather more voters, politicians hold debates, press conferences, and galas. In Brussels, the capital and largest city in Belgium, the local support for their politicians has gotten so low that the politicians are searching for new ways to engage with the young voters, including rapping with them.

Members of the European Parliament presented and debated their policies in a rap battle. The event consisted of four different political parties battling each other over policies, lawmaking and public appeal, while the audience was made up of what looks like conservatives interpreting the rhymes being said on stage.

"When rap started as a language, or as a communication tool, it was about empowering people and that's what we're trying to do," said Matteo Pederzoli, one of the organizers of the rap battle. "We're trying to empower the youth of Europe."

According to The Wall Street Journal, the most recent vote in 2009 only 43% of possible voters cast ballots, and the potential voters 25 and under, only 29% actually voted. Would rapping politicians convince you to vote? Let us know in the comment section below.
