Chilla Jones Details Recent Battle: "You Can't Prepare For Daylyt"

With their KOTD battle released last week, BattleRap.com interviewed Chilla Jones just before the match to talk about his preparation against Daylyt.

“You can’t,” he said when asked about his plan for preparing. “I can do everything in my power to make sure that my lyrics is good. That lyrically I’m where I need to be. But you can’t prepare for Daylyt. You don’t know what he’s going to do. He could show up in a Batman costume. He could show up but-ass naked. You just don’t know. You have no fucking idea what he’s gonna do. I’ve done everything I can on my end. It depends what he does. I do strongly believe that he doesn’t have a gimmick or an antic and he shows up with three rounds of what I know he can do, I know we can have the battle of the year. One of the best battles ever, bar for bar. Kind of regardless of what he does I really expect it to be a dope battle with tons of replay value. It’s hard to prepare for a cat like Daylyt. You just never know.”

Speaking more generally about the state of the industry, Chilla offered his opinion that “there’s a small lack of originality” on the scene.

“I seen an interview with, I wanna say it was Math [Hoffa], where he was talking about how he doesn’t like where Battle Rap is going as far as how dudes are rapping, how dudes are heavier on wordplay,” he said. “It’s like, I think as battle rappers, a lot of times our style reflects what we like to hear most. Math obviously, he’s a big guy. He’s a bully. He’s a street dude. That’s what he likes to hear when he watches other people battle. I’m a wordplay guy. So when I see people like B-Magic, when I see people like Danger Zone, and Daylyt when he’s focused, that’s what I like to watch. I like something that makes me think, that makes me stretch my mind. Something that’s creative that I never heard before. I like where Battle Rap is going. I do think there’s a small lack of originally nowadays. At the same time, the cats who are original still stand out. I don’t think that’s a big problem.”
