Cortez Discloses Predictions For SMACK/URL’s NOME 4 Event

“John John is gon’ kill Reed Dollaz,” Cortez says.

In an exclusive interview with VladTV, Cortez reveals his predictions for the battles on the card at SMACK/URL’s NOME 4 event taking place this Saturday (June 7) at Irving Plaza, New York.

When asked about the matchup between Goodz and [Aye] Verb, Cortez assures it’s going to be 2-1 either way.

“Goodz and Verb, like I said, that’s a grudge match,” he said. “That’s crazy. Goodz is just—his cockiness, his swag, his delivery. It’s up in the air with Goodz and Verb. I really don’t know…but if Verb shows up then I would edge it to Verb but right now I think it’s in the air. It’s gon’ be 2-1 either way though.”

Discussing the battle between DNA and Ill Will, Cortez says you can’t count DNA out.

“I think everybody is counting out DNA and you don’t want that DNA that feels that pressure,” he said. “I think the only other time DNA was counted out this much was against Dizaster and we saw how that turned out. That turned out to be one of the greatest battles. You can’t count a person like DNA out…I hope Ill Will isn’t feeling himself where he goes into the battle thinking this is gon’ be an easy one. It’s not. I say DNA 2-1.”

Much like Hollow Da Don, Cortez admits he finds the battle between Big T and B-Magic weird.

“I fuck with both of those dudes,” Cortez says. “Those both my dudes but that matchup was kinda weird to me. I don’t know if they got some underlying tension…but I see B-Magic, he’s on a role right now, he’s on fire. I have to put my money on Magic. Big T? He’s starting to battle a lot now. He was never really that type of person to battle a lot so it’s going to be cool to see how he adjusts to it and he comes with it, but right now, I’m going with Magic.

Moving onto the battle where John John Da Don faces Reed Dollaz, Cortez says he’s confident John John will get the win.

“I think John John is gon’ kill Reed Dollaz,” he said. “I think Reed is gon’ come with some shit but let me not say this…he’s not ready to be built into the new era, but it’s gonna take a few battles. I don’t see him coming right out the gate and getting that crazy. I don’t see that happening. I see him having some shit and the fans being like, ‘Yo! Reed, alright. You lost but nigga you came back. You one of the people that set the example that you can come back.’ You’re not losing your respect or your pride because he’s not. And at the end of the day niggas gon’ be like, ‘Yo, I will wanna see Reed battle again.’

On the battle concerning Young Gattas and Ms. Hustle, Cortez says it’s going to be a great battle with Hustle edging it.

“That’s a real goody, man.” He continues: “I think people are sleeping on Gattas a little bit but Hustle is in the zone right now. I say Hustle 2-1. In a very good battle too.”

When discussing the rematch between Charlie Clips and Tay Roc, Cortez details how he finds it difficult to see Tay Roc getting the win.

“I don’t see nobody beating Clips, man,” he said. “I’m telling you, I don’t see Tay Roc beating Clips. Clips just doesn’t lose. I just seen him battle Hitman, I’m like, ‘Alright let me see this,’ he just doesn’t lose. It’s like he has this effect, this kryptonite, his delivery, whatever it is, he just doesn’t lose.”

Speaking on whether or not Tay Roc will do better than he did the last time he battled Charlie Clips, Cortez states there will be a huge improvement.

“He gon’ do way better,” he said. “Tay Roc battled Clips, let’s be for real, with general bars. It was still in the old era. And that’s an example with Reed. Even though we was all starting, that era was already dying and niggas was coming with new shit. And that was a perfect example of what Clips did to Tay Roc before. Tay Roc stayed in the game, took his battles up, got his shit up and now Tay Roc is one of the best. That would be the process with Reed, maybe a little faster but that would be the process. But yeah, I just don’t see Clips losing. I see Tay Roc getting off, though.”

Finally when asked if he thinks Charlie Clips going first will work in Tay Roc’s favor, Cortez says Charlie Clips will be prepared either way.

“Yeah…but—Roc is gonna get a round,” he said. “Clips ain’t going 3-0, Roc is gonna get a round, but I just see Clips knowing when to throw the certain freestyle out and when not to…If he’s going to go first he already knows what he wants to do. If Clips is going to go first he already has it planned out why he’s going first and if he let’s Roc go first, he knows what he’s gon’ do rebuttal wise.”
