DNA Talks Victory Over Ill Will At NOME 4

“I knew if I put that real pressure on him, he was gon’ respond or he was gon’ crack and it just so happened that he cracked because I took the life out of him,” DNA says of his battle against Ill Will.

SMACK/URL’s Night Of Main Events 4 took place last Saturday (June 7) at Irving Plaza, New York. VladTV caught up with DNA right after the event who battled against Ill Will early on in the night. Although the battle is yet to be released, reactions from people who were present suggest that DNA comfortably got the win.

Speaking on the battle, DNA said he knew he had to show up against a rapper like Ill Will.

“I just want everybody that doubted me, please apologize, man,” he said. “As human beings, one thing we hate is apologizing but you gotta do it. Honestly man, with Smack, Norbes, a lot of fans that I know are fans of me doubted me in this battle so I definitely had to show up, man. I really took this serious. Ill Will is somebody that a lot of people held in high regard and he’s a talented emcee so I definitely had to show up tonight and I did.”

Prior to NOME 4, Smack White spoke with VladTV regarding the battle between DNA and Ill Will. In the interview, Smack spoke confidently about Ill Will walking away the victor saying that he felt DNA was going to get killed. When asked whether or not this gave him motivation, DNA thanked Smack saying his words helped him.

“Oh definitely,” he said. “What niggas don’t know is that, and this is not to toot my own horn because when you’re not good in certain areas you make up in others, my mind works a million times a minute that’s why I can freestyle like that. So when Smack said that he just gave me mad shit to talk about. If you noticed my first round I got LeBron James references about the shit that just happened and the Smack shit all added in there when he said that. So he helped me. Thank you. [Laughs]”

Speaking on his feelings after the first round, DNA says he felt that the pressure he put on Ill Will was going to force him to crack.

“Sometimes when I first been on stages and a nigga hit me, you can’t recover because you not used to it,” he said. “I just know that out of everybody that battled him, he never battled nobody that was aggressive to, with lines. So I knew if I put that real pressure on him, it was gon’ be one of two things, he was gon’ respond or he was gon’ crack and it just so happened that he cracked because I took the life out of him. That’s what I was trying to do cause I was really gon’ see where he was at after the first round.”

Moving onto the battle between Cortez and T-Rex where both rappers agreed to having strict two-minute rounds, DNA says he doesn’t believe such constraints should happen on such a big stage.

“I just think a two minute battle shouldn’t happen on this stage because you’ve got to be able to get your shit off,” he said. “I feel like Rex could of brought more to the table and so could Cortez if it wasn’t limited to two minutes. So you can’t really even judge it. That was really a promo battle. I don’t know if they gon’ battle a third time, this just might be it for the Cortez/T-Rex trilogy. I just think that on the NOME stage they should of went longer but niggas got paid what they got paid and we can’t get into that.”

When asked to give a few words towards the fans that may still be doubting DNA, the Queens, New York native advised them not to.

“Don’t do it,” he said. “I mean you can feel like I’m gonna lose if you just feel like a niggas better than me. The only battle where somebody can say I got killed, I mean I don’t feel like I got killed, I feel like I lost was to K-Shine. Clearly. It’s hard to be the focused DNA, cause sometimes you get me when I’m not focused and that’s my mistake but I promise the next time I don’t wanna be focused, I’m just not gon’ battle. So Summer Madness 4, I’m tryna top this, man.”
