"Battle Rap right now is more exciting than it’s ever been these days," he says in an interview with XXL. "I’ve always been a fan of Battle Rap since a child. When [Loaded] Lux was on 106 & Park rapping, we’ve been watching that since then. Posta Boy. Cassidy. Jin. It’s been apart of our life forever, but like, right now in this point and time, I feel like after Loaded Lux's 'You Gon Get This Work' epidemic, it’s been more excited than ever."
Ab-Soul continues, explaining why Daylyt is such a beloved Battle Rap emcee.
"Daylyt is from L.A.," he says. "One of our first great battle rappers from L.A. I just thought it would be dope to try that out, to see if I can do it. More than anything, blur the lines between rappers being able to Battle Rap and battle rappers. Can they be rappers? That’s a big discussion as well. I wanted to do that for that purpose."
Daylyt says other rappers also influenced his work on the album, including Drake and Migos.
