40 B.A.R.R.S. & Jaz The Rapper Weigh In On Their Battle At “No Holds Barred”

Jaz The Rapper says she is the “Queen of Battle Rap.”

VladTV caught up with both 40 B.A.R.R.S. and Jaz The Rapper after their battle at Queen Of The Ring’s “No Holds Barred,” an event that took place on June 28 at Irving Plaza in New York. In the interview, both emcees spoke on the battle with 40 saying she got “3-0’d” while Jaz The Rapper labels herself as the “Queen of Battle Rap.”

During the battle, 40 B.A.R.R.S. experienced multiple chokes that resulted in her forfeiting her third round.

“I got fuckin’ 3-0’d,” says 40 B.A.R.R.S. “I didn’t get any of my rounds complete, I fucked up. I took too many battles — nah, I’m not gonna make any excuses, I wasn’t prepared and I lost. Shout-out to Jaz [The Rapper], she won.”

Speaking on how she felt after the first round, 40 admits her confidence dropped after she realized the crowd wasn’t feeling her material.

“Nah, after the first round when I saw how they gravitated towards her, and I saw they really wasn’t fuckin’ with what I was saying, I’m gonna be honest normally that doesn’t affect me but it did,” she continues. “A lot of my bars that should have hit, they wasn’t fuckin’ with so that kind of dropped my confidence for the second and third round. And then when I choked, it was just a fuckin’ snowball effect I guess.”

40 B.A.R.R.S. was later asked if this battle had prompted any wake calls for her Battle Rap career, she replied saying it had and that she didn’t prioritize her time correctly.

“Definitely,” explains 40. “It taught me not to do a battle six days before one of the biggest ones of my career. Not a smart move. I would have rather lost to Cortez and beat Jaz than the other way around. That’s kind of a smack in the face. I guess I didn’t properly prioritize my time ‘cause I just finished writing for Jaz on Thursday. That really wasn’t the smartest thing. You live and you learn.”

VladTV also spoke with 40’s opponent, Jaz The Rapper. Speaking on the battle, Jaz says she’s pleased with how she fared.

“I felt good about how I did,” explains Jaz The Rapper. “I knew what I had, and I said that in many interviews, I was coming to put on a show, I couldn’t speak on what 40 was gonna do. I delivered all my rounds how I planned to, I didn’t have any slip-ups or chokes but it’s funny 40 did. People keep asking me, ‘Yo, do you do voodoo?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t. I really don’t. I just Rap.’ And I’m not aggressive, I’m not intimidating at all. I be smiling in the ring, why ya’ll keeping choking? And ya’ll don’t be on ya’ll A game.”

Throughout her Battle Rap career, Jaz The Rapper has been known for making her opponents choke. When asked about why she thinks this happens, the emcee says she thought it was a coincidence at first, yet as it became a more regular occurrence, it must be due to her creative and strategic approach.

“I don’t know, I can’t tell you,” jokes Jaz The Rapper. “I really don’t know. After the third battle I was like, ‘It gotta be a coincidence.’ After the fourth battle I’m like, ‘Nah, it’s a coincidence.’ Then [Ms.] Hustle did it [and] Hustle never chokes so I’m like, ‘Yo, something’s up. Something is up.’ And now 40 did it. Twice. And I’m like, ‘Yo something’s up!’ I don’t know what it is. You say my style is real smooth but the shit that I say is hard. The shit that I say is good and I don’t do the gun bars so I’m not typical. I’m saying shit that’s creative, that’s still hot. You got to ask every single girl that I battled, ‘Why did you choke against Jaz?’”

Towards the end of the interview, Jaz was asked if she felt she was the Queen of QOTD. Jaz disagrees instead labeling herself as the Queen of Battle Rap.

“I feel I’m the Queen of Battle Rap,” explains a confident Jaz The Rapper. “I’ve said that plently of times. I wouldn’t say I’m Queen Of The Ring simply because I don’t battle like that. I mean if you wanna say the Queen Of The Ring is the Queen of Battle Rap, then you could but I give Queen Of The Ring to 40 [B.A.R.R.S.], not now but I gave that to 40 ‘cause she battle consistently and she never does bad. Today was probably the first time I ever seen her do bad and it just sucks that it had to be against me. But I think I’m the Queen of Battle Rap.”
