Math Hoffa Reacts To Total Slaughter & Dizaster Altercation At BOLA 5

Exclusive: "The drama and all that, everybody knows what’s been going on," Hoffa says. "Everybody knows who's in this building tonight and we kept it peace. It’s more about growing this culture because this is a way for all of us to express our art and provide for our families at the same time. There shouldn’t be any more violence in Battle Rap. It has to grow. What we’re seeing right now is huge. There’s no fucking this up.”

Catching up with Math Hoffa directly after the Total Slaughter event in New York earlier this month, Battle Rap asked the emcee about the brand’s potential moving forward and its current stake in the culture.

“I think this was a wonderful event for Battle Rap to grow even further,” he said. “Shout out to Joe Budden for jumping into the ring. Shout out to Shady Records. Shout out to the whole Slaughterhouse for just putting everything together. This has been a humongous look for Battle Rap. Now, the battles tonight, crazy. Crazy. A lot of it you did not expect. Remember when you watch this that Hoffa told you you didn’t expect this shit dog. You really didn’t. You know what I mean? It was a great night. From Joe Budden to Hollow, Mook to Loaded Lux, Arsonal, Big T, T-Rex, Daylyt—that got a little weird but you know it’s regular shit for Daylyt so it’s whatever.”

Addressing the Shady Records affiliated event, Hoffa also seemed to allude to technical difficulties that led Joe Budden to rap from a handheld mic.

“They work out the kinks and they get some more rappers that really, really wanna step into this ring and respect the format,” he said of what’s next for Total Slaughter. “You gotta respect the format ‘cause that’s what people come to see. Us battle rappers, we don’t use these,” Math said in reference to handheld microphones. “It’s hands-free. Everything is entertainment. Everything. So if you don’t respect the format it’s not gonna have the same feel. A lot of people are not gonna side with you just because you didn’t respect the format. But, it is what it is.”

During the short interview Math Hoffa also spoke vaguely about his recent altercation with Dizaster and said there “shouldn’t be any more violence in Battle Rap.”

“I’ve learned that I love Battle Rap more than any of that,” he said. “The drama and all that, everybody knows what’s been going on. Everybody knows who's in this building tonight and we kept it peace. It’s more about growing this culture because this is a way for all of us to express our art and provide for our families at the same time. There shouldn’t be any more violence in Battle Rap. It has to grow. What we’re seeing right now is huge. There’s no fucking this up.”
