Cortez Reflects On Total Slaughter: "I Shoulda Been On That Stage"

Cortez says it should have been him who battled Arsonal at Total Slaughter, not Big T.

Now that Total Slaughter has finished, Cortez has started talking about some of the behind-the-scenes details from the show.

Cortez was one of the battle rappers who participated in the reality TV series “The Road to Total Slaughter.”

In the show’s first episode, a surprise battle took place when T-Rex came in and challenged Cortez for a spot in the tournament. Cortez choked during his performance and had to sleep on the couch for the rest of the week.

"What people don't know was Calicoe was on the show, I wasn't on the show. I got added to the show the week of," Cortez says in an interview with HipHopIsReal.com.

"Rex was prepared, I wasn't," he adds.

Cortez highlights the fact that everyone in the house besides him had eight hours to prepare for their battles.

"At the end of the day every rapper had eight hours to prepare in the house. Everybody knew Rex was coming to the house, that's a given," he says.

Cortez also mentions that “Road to Total Slaughter” viewers didn't get to see the spontaneous battles that took place in the house.

"That's probably the only time you hear all of us niggas rapping without no chokes in the whole show and that didn't even make the show," says Cortez.

"I came at niggas there with verses, so it wasn't like I wasn't prepared. I just didn't know that we had to battle on the spot and, you know, I came in there on a week’s notice," he continues. "Everyone else knows, I will not front, everyone else had at least a month to know about this show. So that's the reason why I feel slighted."

Reflecting on Big T’s battle against Arsonal at the Total Slaughter event on July 12, Cortez says he should have been on the stage and not Big T. He also says that many of his fans feel the same way.

"Me and Arsonal would've been a great battle for that venue," says Cortez.

Cortez says that Big T "got killed" against Arsonal. He explains that he thinks it's because Big T isn't made for big venues and can only perform well with small crowds. He says: "I just don't think he was ready for that Arsonal."

Cortez does say that he is anticipating a future battle with Arsonal. He believes he has what it takes to beat him and aside from that it's a battle people want to see.

"I know what it takes to beat him. I kind of got the formula," said Cortez.
