Royce Da 5’9 Says ‘Nobody Is Gonna Beat Eminem’

The Slaughterhouse emcee also discusses jumping in the ring himself and weighs in on the battle between Joe Budden and Hollow Da Don at Total Slaughter.

During this past Sunday’s (July 27) U Dubb Annihilation event in New Jersey, VladTV caught up with Royce Da 5’9 to discuss various battle rap related topics including the return of fellow Detroit emcee Eminem.

In the interview, Royce states that he hasn’t spoken with Eminem about his return to the ring but admits whoever his potential opponent would be will lose saying, “nobody is gonna beat Em.”

“I don’t know,” he said. “I haven’t had a conversation with him in depth about his ‘return.’ It sounds so far-fetched to me but you never know, I never speak for Marshall, that’s one thing I never do because he’s very spontaneous like I am. You never know, man. If he wakes up one day and decides he wants to do it, it’s his platform [so] he can do it. Whoever it is is gonna lose. Nobody is gonna beat Em. I don’t care what anybody has to say it’s just my personal opinion. All of that shit that Dizaster does connecting the syllables, he’s like a fine mixture of a lot of great battle rappers and [Eminem] still has that. He can still freestyle and I think it would be great if he were to do that, definitely. But I don’t know if it’ll happen or not.”

The Slaughterhouse emcee also shed some light on the possibility of himself jumping in the ring after seeing Joe Budden battle Hollow Da Don at Total Slaughter. Royce says that watching Joe gave him the “bug” to battle and that anything is possible.

“I don’t know, man,” he said. “It’s hard to say what I would do. I will say this, if I ever decided to get in there I don’t think it would be against a battle rapper, it would have to be [against] somebody else that’s established to kind of level the playing field a little bit … I’m not gon’ lie [Joe Budden] kind of gave me the bug a little bit. When I seen that it made me feel like, ‘Damn, if I took a month or two to prepare, I would get in there,’ but I would have to call out somebody that’s signed and has a tour schedule, you know how it goes. I’m speaking prematurely right now but anything is possible.”

Royce was then asked about fellow industry artist Cassidy as an opponent.

“Cassidy is great,” Royce said. “I don’t know if that’s a good fit for me. We would love to have him on our platform though. We would definitely love to have him on our platform. I’m thinking about reaching out to him, we reached out to him before [but] it wasn’t the right time. Maybe we’ll be able to work something out.”

Finally the Shady Records signee spoke about the battle between Joe Budden and Hollow Da Don at Total Slaughter on July 12.

“I think it’s great Joe got in there and made Hollow bleed,” he said. “Win, lose or draw, a lot of people didn’t agree with how I felt it went, but everybody has to admit he made Hollow bleed.”

Royce said if Joe hadn’t have put the mic down in the third round he would have walked away the victor.

“Well yeah, that’s what I said at the event,” he continues. “I said I had Joe 2-1 and the reason why—there was no way you could give him the third round [but] I had Joe winning both rounds and I feel round one was arguable. You can’t just give it to Hollow ‘cause he’s the battle rapper and you also can’t just give it to Hollow because Joe’s not using standard battle rapper formula … I don’t think people should hold him accountable for that but I think he’s under such scrutiny because he’s an established artist. I definitely had Joe 2-1, for sure.”
