Cassidy Says He's Been Offered $250K To Battle

Cassidy tweets that he's been offered $250K to battle after months of publicly refusing lower offers.

Fueling rumors that he'll eventually return to the ring, Philadelphia rapper Cassidy tweeted confirmation that offers for him to battle are still on the table.

The tweet comes after months of speculation about Cassidy’s return to battling (with that $40K fee frequently repeated) and follows previous statements from Cassidy himself that he’s “not battling no more.”

In April, Cass said that he's "elevated" from battle rap and suggested that the only possibility he’d battle again relied on the hypothetical opportunity to face off against an opponent of his own celebrity caliber. “Only way I would do that if it was like an artist that accomplished something like I accomplished it,” he said. “It’d be worth me doing it, for me to even get motivated to want to do it.”

He went on to compare URL battlers and industry rappers to amateur vs. professional boxing leagues.

“You not gonna fight the nigga that won the gold medal in the Olympics because it’s even against the law for them to fight,” he said. “It’s not even the right thing to do. The nigga that won the gold medal gotta turn pro and beat a lot of professional niggas first before he qualify to fight somebody like that. I feel as though these little URL niggas--not taking nothing away from them--the reason why the views is going up is because that’s one of the main places you could hear bars nowadays, ‘cause niggas ain’t really spitting.”

Also in April, Joe Budden responded to Cassidy’s reluctance and said he’s “not getting paid Loaded Lux money right now from anywhere.”

“Cassidy is saying he wouldn’t do it because he feels like it would be a step backwards,” Budden said. “That’s bullshit. You have to be able to recognize bullshit when you see it. Cassidy is not getting paid Loaded Lux money right now from anywhere. I’m just talking logic. This is no offense to Cassidy. No disrespect to him and his ability. But you not getting $50,000 from anywhere. So why would you not take advantage of your ability in a culture that applauds lyricists?”

Hollow Da Don has also spoken at length about his view of Cassidy as a rapper and even left open the possibility of battling him earlier this month.

Cassidy’s most famous battle was against fellow Philly emcee Freeway. Last week, Cass explained that Jay-Z co-ordinated the battle.

“We don’t have a relationship like that,” he said of Jay-Z. “I mean, I wouldn’t consider him my homie or my friend, but we met a few times. We talked a few times, but I don’t got a relationship with him like that. The most time me and Jay-Z spent around each other talking was the Freeway battle. He the one that set it up. It was me, him, and Swizz [Beatz] in the studio before it all went down. So, that was the time I really spent the most time around him. And really talked to him and all that shit.”

Besides his formal battle history, Cassidy has also released a slew of diss tracks over the years and recently engaged in a back-and-forth beef with Meek Mill. Earlier this month, after he co-opted Drake’s “0 to 100” single himself, battle rapper Arsonal fired off at Cassidy with a diss over the same beat.

Do you think Cassidy will return to the ring? Do you think he'll do well?
