Bigg K Reveals He Prefers Battling On The West Coast

EXCLUSIVE: Bigg K also discusses the amount of leagues in the industry and making a living off of battle rap.

In an exclusive interview with BattleRap.com, Bigg K discussed various battle rap related topics including the ever-increasing popularity of the culture. The Norfolk, Virginia native says he believes battle rappers should be getting paid similar figures to UFC fighters.

“It only gets bigger, man,” explains Bigg K. “I think somebody has to monopolize it. I don’t know who’s the one person gonna be with enough money to monopolize this whole shit but somebody can. This shit could be a sport. Ain’t no reason why we shouldn’t be getting paid like fuckin’ UFC fighters and shit. I think it can go that far but somebody got to just stick with it, there’s a lot of shit that come with it but somebody can monopolize it though.”

During the interview, Bigg K also spoke on the number of leagues there are in battle rap saying “there can never be too many.”

“There can never be too many leagues. I battle for money, that’s it, bro,” he says. “If somebody got some money I’ll battle for you, I don’t give a fuck. I don’t mind having a problem pledging my allegiance to one league if I’m compensated correctly. I’ve dealt with a lot of leagues and some of them want you to commit to just battling for them but they ain’t booking you enough, you see what I’m saying? If you’re telling me I can’t go get this money elsewhere and you got one battle a year for me, and people calling my phone everyday like, ‘Yo, I got $2,500 for you here. I got four grand for you—’ you’re telling me I can’t go get this money? If you gon’ tell me I can’t, you gotta give me that money. If you’re not gonna give it to me I’m gonna go and get it. I’m gonna go and get it, I don’t give a fuck where it’s at.”

Bigg K also offered his opinion on the possibility of making a living off of battle rap, citing Loaded Lux as a prime example as somebody who has.

In June, Chilla Jones also spoke to BattleRap.com about making a living off of battle rap saying, “It’s definitely possible.”

“[Loaded] Lux just got $40,000 for a battle,” he says. “How can’t you live off [that]? That’s more than some people make in a year … I ain’t there yet, I’ma be there though [laughs]. [I’m] trying to get that Lux check.”

Bigg K moved on to address battlers he’d like to face in the future. Although he mentioned no one specific, the Virginia lyricist said he wants to battle “everybody that’s got over a million views in a battle.”

“I don’t really have nobody, bro … I want to battle everybody that’s got over a million views in a battle,” he says. “I want to battle every one of them. I don’t know how to fuckin’ do this shit. I battled Illmaculate and The Source gave that shit battle of the year and we got like fuckin’ 300,000 views. I don’t get it. [And] then you got these battles that suck dick and they got like fuckin’ two or three million views. It’s crazy. I don’t understand it, bro. I haven’t figured out how to do it yet. I don’t know if people are paying for views or what the fuck.”

Finally Bigg K outlined the differences between battling on the East and West Coast.

“The West Coast crowd is very, very fair,” he says. “I don’t wanna say generous ‘cause they’re not, if you gon’ spit that bullshit they ain’t gon’ react but they’re gon’ give you a fair shot. In the East Coast crowd you might get booed at [the] introductions, bro. As soon as they say your name you know they ain’t fuckin’ with you. Big difference [between] the East and West Coast is the crowd. Crowd and the weather.

When asked which coast he prefers to battle on, Bigg K revealed the West Coast is his favored shoreline.

“The West. The West Coast,” he continues. “I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia so all my games are away games. I never have home games, you know what I’m saying? So I don’t give a fuck where it’s at. I know I’m not gonna have a home feel at events. I don’t give a fuck. The East Coast, West Coast, North Dakota, I’m coming, bro. I’m coming to get that check and get the fuck out of there [laughs].”
