URL Announces Main "Summer Madness 4" Card

Hitman Holla, Tsu Surf, B Magic, Arsonal, Conceited and more are set to appear at the two-day event.

SMACK/URL has released a new trailer for their two-day "Summer Madness 4" event, going down in New York on Sept. 27-28, 2014.

The trailer announces the battles for Day 2, mostly confirming the rumors that had been floating around the scene for weeks:

Hitman Holla vs. Tsu Surf
Charlie Clips vs. T-Rex
B Magic vs. Conceited
Aye Verb vs. John John Da Don
DNA vs. Tay Roc
Arsonal vs. Ill Will

Day 1 of the event will be at Manhattan's Gramercy Theater. URL representative Beasley doesn't give any details on the card, although the Live Nation website selling tickets describes it as a "Rookies vs. Vets" event. With a capacity of only 500 people, the venue will definitely have a more intimate feel. There will also be a meet-and-greet with the battlers and URL staff that day.

Day 2 will be at Irving Plaza (the same venue as NOME 4), which has a capacity of 1,025. Beasley says he was happy with the NOME 4 footage and that the production team has also found ways to improve the setup.

In the opening of the trailer, Beasley addresses why the event was pushed to late September despite its name.

"This is not by design," he explains. "When you're an independent hip-hop company a lot of these venues do not want to rent to you. And with all the craziness that's been going on recently within the emcee battle culture, it's definitely hindered the process."

He says the league initially wanted to hold the event the weekend of Aug. 23, but that overlapped with the MTV Music Awards and would make it more difficult to attract celebrities to the venue.

Beasley also mentions the bigger corporate players that have been stepping into the battle rap realm.

"We are the architects of this culture so it's very important to us to deliver these battles in the way they need to be seen--especially in a time when you have a lot of these corporate giants coming in trying to do different things with battle rap," he says. "It's important that we keep the authenticity and deliver the battles in a way that you're accustomed to seeing."

Before launching the trailer, he also plugs Season 3 of BET's "Ultimate Freestyle Friday" for October as well as the URL "Duel in the Desert" mega-card in Phoenix on Oct. 4.
