Cassidy Didn't Pick Dizaster, Took Battle Because Money Was Right

Cassidy says he was paid $200,000 up front for his Dizaster battle and felt he was being “disrespected” when offered $40,000 by other leagues.

In a newly published interview with VladTV, Philadelphia rapper Cassidy revealed he is being paid around $250,000 to battle Dizaster at Fresh Coast/FilmOn’s “Ether” event in December.

The payday is almost certainly the highest ever for a rap battle, and was made possible by FilmOn's billionaire backer, Alki David. The price sets a new precedent for industry rappers stepping into the battle rap game, surpassing the $200,000 sum Joe Budden bragged about getting in his "Total Slaughter" performance against Hollow Da Don.

In a tweet posted in late July, Cassidy disclosed he had been offered $250,000 to jump back in the ring but didn’t reveal the bidder.

“Like six times that $40,000 you were talking about,” Cassidy says in the Vlad interview when asked how much he is receiving to battle Dizaster. “$200,000 up front… It ain’t crazy money, it ain’t the biggest amount in the world but it’s worth it so I can help the culture [and] prove that I’m still that nigga for the younger niggas who wasn’t even around when I was doing what I was doing [and] convince them I’m still that nigga.”

“It’s gonna be big for the culture and influence a lot of other niggas that’s in the industry to get back to barrin’ up [and] get back to being competitive ‘cause that’s where I want the game to go. But, at the end of the day, I don’t work for free so [if] you come with $40,000, it’s not worth it to me,” continues Cassidy. “That’s the same amount of money that them battle niggas get and I feel like you’re being disrespectful offering me that. If a battle nigga getting $20,000 or $30,000 and you offering me $40,000 it’s like you’re being disrespectful. Bring me something that make a little bit of sense, you know what I mean?”

Cassidy goes on to admit he didn’t have any say in who he would face.

“I ain’t decide to battle Dizaster, I ain’t got no picks… I ain’t pick Dizaster,” he says.

“At the end of the day, the reason why I accepted this is because the chicken was right,” he continues. “They gave me crazy chicken. More money than anybody ever made off battling [and] what I feel like I deserve. So when you come to me with the right amount of chicken [where it’s like]: ‘Alright, I can dedicate enough time to write for this ‘cause you gave me some chicken.’ It’s like: ‘Alright, I ain’t got no picks. Whoever y’all wanna pick. I don’t give a fuck.’ I’m not trying to find the easy win or the hard win, whoever. Whoever y’all got in mind that y’all wanna bring up, it’s gonna be the same result. That’s the mentality I had.”
