Immortal Technique Discusses Daylyt’s Antics

The “Dance With The Devil” rapper says bars will only take you so far in battle rap.

Immortal Technique weighed in on the battle rap scene in a newly published interview with VladTV.

In the interview, the Harlem, New York rapper commented on Daylyt’s past remarks about wanting to “fuck Diddy,” saying everyone in the entertainment business needs a shtick and that bars alone only go so far.

“I probably met that guy once in passing, maybe twice. I don’t know. I met a lot of battlers, though. I do know this, battling and your bars in this era will only get you so far,” Immortal Technique says. “You can be the nicest motherfucka here but without some sort of entertainment value—in show business they call it a shtick. What’s your shtick? Who are you?”

“Are you the lone rebel? Are you the player? I guess people have a sort of character they come into the game playing,” he continues. “Now irrespective of whether that character is all them, that they’re saying, ‘Alright, the character I’ma show you in public is really me. I’m really fuckin’ crazy. I’m really like this.’ Or if you’re gonna play up a little bit of yourself like, ‘Cool, I’m gonna be an exaggeration of myself, as opposed to who I am really.’ Or if you’re gonna say, ‘Hey, I’m gonna completely be a different nigga.’ I just think in terms of promoting music nowadays, people will say anything and do anything to be heard. And if that’s what they need to do to sell it [it’s like], ‘Hey man, I don’t tell you how to run your store my nigga, I just tell you how I run my store.’”
