Music Of The Week: Loaded Lux, Madchild, Tay Roc

Loaded Lux preps his Beloved 2 release for September 23.

Every week we take a moment of pause from explicit battle rap coverage and instead spotlight the best music released from battlers themselves. With so many rappers using their in-ring appearances as promotion for their music careers, we reserve this space for all of the in-the-booth material.

Below are some highlights from the past week in battle rapper music. We've included links and videos from Loaded Lux, Madchild, Oun-P, Tali, and more.

Loaded Lux - “About The Money Freestyle”

Proving he’s got plenty of life left after his loss to Murda Mook in July, Loaded Lux dropped off the latest in a string of recent remix videos yesterday. This time Lux co-opts the beat (and flow) from T.I. and Young Thug's “About The Money” single. Lux is currently prepping the release of his Beloved 2 project, set to drop on September 23.

In a recent interview with BET, Lux explained what fans can expect from the project. “Musically and artistically it's a new Loaded Lux,” he said. “It's very insightful. It's where I stand at with the issues that I'm dealing with, new growth coming from where I'm from, and growing ultimately in manhood. The greatest thing about this one is that when you grow up on camera, people see everything that is going on with you, which sets the tone for the conversation. So people can expect me to talk about those situations in the project.”

Loaded Lux feat. Twelve - “0-100 Freestyle”

Loaded Lux also joined legions of other emcees with a remix of Drake’s “0-100” featuring Twelve released last week. The video finds Lux jumping out of an Audi and rapping from the stoop, making sure the listeners know: “Loaded Lux came to discuss business.”

Oun-P - “Nothing Like Money”

Before he releases his F.A.C.T.S. 2 mixtape, Oun-P let loose a new video single on the first of the month. A rags-to-riches anthem, “Nothing Like Money” follows the Bronx emcee around pool-dotted-mansions in Palm Springs.

Madchild - “Never Die”

Though he's only battled once, Vancouver emcee Madchild's new video is a potential calling card for his career’s lifespan. His new video “Never Die” is the first peek at his upcoming Switched On release, scheduled to come out on September 30 via Battle Axe. In the video Madchild raps his characteristically aggressive bars, describing himself as a “face-tatted Aryan” from inside the depths of a forest.

Purp Pyro feat. Tay Roc & Ciity Dave - “Hazard County Kings”

Featured alongside Ciity Dave on Purp Pyro’s recent “Hazard County Kings” single, Tay Roc completed the cypher for the Howard County anthem. Tay also took to his Instagram to document the video production.

Tali feat. Flexplicit - “Believe Me”

With Tali’s Don't Flop battle against Gemini released over the weekend, the battler released a remix to Drake and Lil Wayne’s “Believe Me” single today.

Flexplicit - “Round 2”

Flexplicit released what is essentially a long-form diss aimed at fellow battler Unanymous last week. Titled “Round 2,” Flex also tweeted that the British battler can expect more to come.

Big J - "Coz I Look Down"

Culled from his recently released New Me project, "Coz I Look Down" is the second song on the short EP from British emcee Big J. The five-track project comes several months after J's Overload mixtape, also released via his Bandcamp page.
