ARP Talks Multiple Leagues Using Same Battlers

ARP questions a tweet from King Of The Dot owner Organik saying too many leagues are using the same talent.

ARP, the CEO of Rare Breed Entertainment, posted a vlog to RBE’s YouTube channel yesterday covering a variety of battle rap related topics. During the video, ARP addresses the topic of battlers being booked on different leagues and how this affects his league.

“Now the reason why this is so relevant to RBE is because we move kinda fast. If we wanna do a card, we gon’ knock it out … Now because of that, our cards get announced or they get booked pretty well in advance, opposed to when they actually happen. 'Blood, Sweat & Tiers' was just about tied up in the end of July. Meanwhile the card isn’t all the way until November 1,” ARP explains. “So what happens in between those time gaps? What happens is maybe somebody that RBE books ends up on another card in between that time.

"But what happens and what goes over some of the owners’ heads and also some of the fans’ heads is [that] y'all start throwing out credit. Now when we book somebody we’re not looking for a bunch of brownie points and shit but I see y'all placing those kudos and those points and I see owners claiming certain shit too. It’s almost hypocrisy but some of y'all just aren’t informed.”

ARP moves on to discuss the scheduling conflicts for battlers who performed at King Of The Dot’s “Battle Of L.A. 5” on June 28, and RBE’s “Lift His Soul” event on July 5.

“I fuck with King Of The Dot. Shout-out to Lush One, shout-out to Aspect [One], shout-out to J-Pro, definitely shout-out to King Fly, but I’m gonna use Organik as an example,” he says. “Nobody get sensitive, I’m just speaking in terms of what I see. I think Organik sent out a tweet to a degree saying, ‘There’s too many leagues booking the same battle rappers.’ And that’s true.

"But it’s also up to the owners to pay attention to their surroundings and what’s going on and other cards and other activities in the game. It’s part of being a good promoter is to pay attention to your surroundings. You don’t wanna promote somebody or put somebody on your card that has a bunch of battles? Then pay attention to what other battles he might have going on. You have to. It’s what a good promoter does.”

ARP cited Bigg K and Math Hoffa as two battlers who appeared on KOTD’s BOLA 5 after being announced for RBE’s “Lift His Soul.”

“It’s no secret that we had Bigg K, Ooops, O-Red and Math Hoffa all conflict on the 'Lift His Soul' event and the BOLA 5 event that was only a week apart from each other,” he says. “I’ll use the two biggest names from that equation [as examples]: Bigg K and Math Hoffa ... Bigg K and Big Kannon was the first battle we booked on that card — the end of January, but then the card wasn’t all the way until July. King Of The Dot made Danny Myers and Bigg K after I announced my Bigg K and Big Kannon battle and that’s fine. Y'all know how I am at RBE if you pay attention to the channel, I don’t mind shit like that too much. I don’t bitch about shit like that too much, I’m more of a fan than I am an owner sometimes.

"Let me use Math [Hoffa] too, that’s the obvious one. We booked Math Hoffa, announced him for his return for 'Lift His Soul' versus O-Red but King Of The Dot still wanted to do Math versus Dizaster on their card a week before mine. That works out sometimes. Sometimes the platforms are able to work it out, the artists are able to work it out — it didn’t really work for me, actually, it definitely didn’t work better for me — but you can work it out as men … But at the same time, when you send a tweet out like that, Organik, talking about too many platforms booking the same battler rappers or whatever, that’s not really a statement that rings true to some of the actions that have happened on recent cards that have been booked, you see what I’m saying?

“If you’re gonna make statements like the one Organik made, let’s make sure we understand when these artists are booked versus when they actually appear on your card or on your YouTube channel, okay?”
