Big Kannon Breaks Down "The Blueprint" Card

A look at GO-Rilla Warfare's Sept. 20 card with the man who helped put it together.

Battle rap returns to Chicago with GO-Rilla Warfare's "Blueprint" weekend on Sept. 19-20. The two-day event features some of the scene's elite on Day 2 and plenty of local talent on Day 1.

BattleRap.com caught up with Chicago emcee Big Kannon, who is the league's co-owner and on the card battling against Charlie Clips.

BattleRap.com: What was your goal with this card?

Big Kannon: To keep bringing something consistently to the Midwestern region that people will consider as 'big.' We weren't going for any theme in general. Just incredible match-ups and battles. We believe that all of these battles are evenly matched. That's why we put these ones together.

What's the battle scene like in Chicago right now?

We're trying to get a scene. A lot of the times when we get acknowledged, it's from going to other regions, like the East Coast or the West Coast. So we're trying to establish a poignant market for the Midwest, so that's why we've been doing these cards and bringing all of the talent here. There are other leagues out here but I'd say we're probably in the forefront.

Let's talk about your battle first. What do you have in store for Charlie Clips?

Just incredible, incredible, incredible bars. I think Clips is by far one of the best doing it right now and I think I can match wits with the man so that's why that battle is happening.

Do you think Clips will be prepared? He's got a pretty busy schedule in the next few weeks.

If he's not, he'll die. So I would hope he is.

Tell me what you expect for Aye Verb vs. Daylyt.

I expect that to be a lyrical bonanza. If the Verb of old comes and the Daylyt of new — cause he's stopping the antics and he's rapping — so if he comes with that then it has all the makings of an incredible battle.

I saw Daylyt post on Facebook that he's going to bring "the biggest gimmick Chicago has ever seen."

You never know with Daylyt. The gimmick could be that he's gonna rap.

I thought Verb's last performance on GO-Rilla Warfare against Swave Sevah was his best of the year. He's had a few shaky performances lately, but his history on your league has actually been really good.

Right, yeah Verb's first time rocking with us was against Swave. Hopefully he stays true to form.

How did Head I.C.E vs. X-Factor come together?

The fact that it's one of the most unorthodox match-ups ever but it also makes sense. When you look at these guys stylistically, they each talk to you, they have their own lingo, they got their own formula. You can't duplicate a Head I.C.E. You can't duplicate an X-Factor.

So when you match these two OGs in the ring, we wanna see who's the bigger OG of the two of 'em. When you look at that battle it just says 'classic' and that's the one people are most interested in seeing. When we were putting it together, we didn't know how that battle would play with the fans, but people are really into it as a match-up. I can't wait.

Marv Won vs. Shotgun Suge. That's no longer on the card?

No, we pushed that back for a later date. We have a plan with that battle. I know a lot of Midwest people want to see it happen, but we pushed it back to a further card.

Talk to me about JC vs. Danny Myers.

That'll be a lyrical barfest too. Danny Myers is one of the most aggressive punchers in the game right now. I rave about JC's pen game and the same for Danny too so I'm very interested in seeing how them two rock out.

Ok and finally, Young Kannon vs. Cortez.

Ok first off, they're both Mexican. Or Mexican and Puerto Rican. So we had to match them up together. I'm looking forward to a nice Mariachi bloodbath. There's gonna be taco and enchilada juice everywhere.
