Music Of The Week: BET Cyphers, DNA, Rum Nitty

A breakdown of the week's best music from the battle rap industry.

With news of Snoop Dogg’s Gladiator School and this weekend’s Summer Madness 4 event dominating headlines over the past week, we return to our Music of the Week feature to highlight the best music from battle rappers over the last seven days. We’ve included new music from DNA, Loaded Lux, Rum Nitty, and more.

BET Cyphers

With Conceited filling out the line-up in the first of BET’s Digital All-Star Cyphers and the second consisting of all URL artists, Gladiator School isn’t the only currently trending battle rap friendly space at BET.

Conceited joined the likes of Emilio Rojas, Dreezy, and Andy Mineo in the first cypher and separately Tsu Surf, T-Rex, Rain, Goodz, and Smack White appeared in their own. Both cyphers were noticeably anchored by DJ Scratch’s beat juggling as a backdrop.

24-7 Gang feat. DNA - “Don’t Panic (24-7 Remix)”

DNA’s latest comes in the form of a remix of French Montana’s popular “Don’t Panic” single. Co-opting the beat for himself, DNA spins the topic into his own romance brags: “Shorty fell in love with a bachelor / It just so happen I’m a rapper.”

Loaded Lux feat. Winta - “They Don’t Hustle No More”

Released as a final bit of promo ahead of his Beloved 2 EP out today (Sept. 23), Loaded Lux let loose visuals for his “They Don’t Hustle No More” single. Boasting about his hustler’s pedigree, Lux also brings up his most recent indisputable battle rap win. “That’s the ugly truth / Seems like everything changed when that Calicoe battle went through the roof / New props is cool,” he raps.

Rum Nitty - “Nino Brown”

Before battling T-Rex in Atlanta last weekend, Rum Nitty posted his fired up “Nino Brown” single on SoundCloud. Claiming he’s like Wesley Snipes’ character in New Jack City, the Arizona emcee proves that his brand of ratchet — and the never-ending Migos flow — isn’t going anywhere.

Caustic feat. Lush One - "Codeine"

Though its initial release was a few months ago, Bay Area emcee Caustic has made his anthem to the opiate available for free download this week. Caustic has also promised to release another track from his Free Drugs project once he gets 2,000 likes on his Facebook page.
