After Hollow Da Don again shot down the possibility of facing off against John John Da Don in an interview with "The War Report" last week, John John responded on the same platform yesterday (Oct. 12) and explained why he deserves the battle.
Last week, Hollow called into the show and took issue with fans and pundits who place Charlie Clips ahead of him on their Top 5 lists. While he detailed why he disagrees, Hollow touched on the ongoing calls for a battle against John John before addressing a possible match against Clips.
“I gotta feel a threat,” he said. “I’m not threatened by John John. He’s like a dope battle rapper, don’t get me wrong. He’s fire. But he’s not elite that would scare me. I’m doing this for the competition as well as the money and the branding too. First and foremost, I gotta be motivated. I just took a battle I wasn’t motivated [for] and look how it came out.”
Speaking on the show released today, John John said he doesn’t need a battle against Hollow to rise into battle rap’s elite ranks, but hinted that a match-up would put an end to comparisons between himself and the Total Slaughter victor.
“My whole thing is this, I don’t need a shot from Hollow,” he said. “This is not me needing a shot. To do what exactly? I’m not trying to style on anybody or whatever the case is. I just feel like niggas is so worried about discrediting me they looking at me like I need Hollow to come up. That’s not what this is about. That’s not what this is about. I don’t need Hollow to come up. My resume is good if you ask me. Is it not? How many do a nigga gotta get before he don’t need the shots no more? Is it gonna be a shot every time? If that’s the case, did Joe Budden give Hollow a shot? Or was Hollow giving Joe Budden the shot? Who was giving who the shot?
“Hollow never gave nobody a shot, if you wanna talk about that," he went on. "You talk about Steams, I don’t avoid. When people bring up Steams to me in the interview I don’t avoid it. I always say, ‘Yeah, that can possibly happen.’ I’m with it. I like Steams. But you can’t compare me battling Steams to me battling Hollow. The whole thing with Hollow is, ever since I started making a name myself niggas wouldn’t let this Hollow shit die down. Then on top of that, the fanbase that he got — he got a strong fanbase, I’ve seen niggas with LOM tatted on them. With that whole fanbase, they just like, ‘Oh, Hollow would kill this nigga. You a fake Hollow.’ It got to the point where you know how if you a diehard Kobe fan you can’t be a Lebron fan? I feel like that’s what it is right now. I just got tired of everybody through the years saying, ‘Hollow, Hollow, Hollow.’ My whole thing is this, if y'all saying this nigga would kill me, let this nigga come kill me. In my eyes, I done faced some of the best. I haven’t been killed yet.”
John John went on to break down a possible Hollow vs. Charlie Clips battle and admitted "it'd be a doper battle."
“I understand Hollow, he feel like it ain’t worth it," he said. "He’d rather battle Charlie Clips. Yeah, it’d be a doper battle but he needs Charlie Clips. As far as name-wise, Charlie Clips has that right now. He’s trying to jump on that. Niggas say you’re only as good as your last battle. If we go back to Charlie Clips’ last battle and Hollow’s last battle, Hollow don’t deserve Charlie Clips in a sense. That’s not even competition. He said he looking for competition and he don’t see me as a threat ‘cause I haven’t killed nothing. Who did Surf kill before [Hollow] battled Surf? That’s how I’m looking at it ... Niggas is saying I’m trying to get a shot from this nigga. No. I’m just tired of this shit. So I feel like we get in that fucking ring, niggas could stop comparing me.”
