Beasley Addresses “Duel In The Desert” Footage Dispute

Beasley says he holds no grudge towards Teddy Grizzle after a disagreement surrounding the “Duel In The Desert” footage.

Calling into "AngryFans Radio" recently, URL’s Beasley offered his side of the "Duel In The Desert" story and explained that he feels no animosity towards its organizer Teddy Grizzle.

URL had agreed to co-promote the Oct. 4 event in Phoenix, and Smack White was initially slated to co-host the day's affairs. In exchange for helping to promote the card, URL would receive the footage of the battles with the option of releasing them on their YouTube channel.

Days before the event, Teddy Grizzle went on the same program and aired out his frustrations with the level of URL's promotional efforts. After the event, it was revealed that the battles would now drop on King Of The Dot's channel.

“Man, I’m still kinda confused about the whole situation,” Beasley explains. “I saw and heard some things … Me personally, man, I don’t like to air business out into the public eye but because [Teddy Grizzle] took it upon himself to run out here and do it, I guess we gotta talk about ‘cause you guys asking the question. First and foremost Teddy Grizzle is a guy I met recently. I think he’s a good kid, he has a lot of big dreams and things that he wants to do … [The event] wasn’t sold out but it was a success, it did well, right? Now, we were supposed to work together but the majority of the people heard about his successful event from me announcing it on the Hitman [Holla vs. Tsu] Surf announcement from ‘Summer Madness 4.’ I announced that we were going to be doing something with him and that really kind of set things into motion for him. I made him a trailer with the whole URL voice, we aired it on the biggest YouTube channel for battle rap in the world: TheURLTV. He came out to New York, he chilled with me at ‘Summer Madness 4.’ I got him throughout the whole weekend, I got him on VladTV and I shouted him out in my VladTV interview if you look at it. But, at the end of the day, I don’t know what he was expecting but there was no money exchanged between us, you know? We were supposed to get the battles and as time progressed things began to change.”

“Now he’s giving the battles to another brand,” Beasley continues. “He never told me that he was doing that, I found that out in the world which was kinda wack. It’s kind of shocking to me because we were actually standing with him on stage at ‘Summer Madness 4.’ For him to turn around [and say], ‘They did bad business and this and that,’ was kind of shocking to me. But if you look at all my Twitter feeds [or] Facebook I haven’t said anything, I just rolled with it as I usual do. I gave him so much information as far as what cameras to use, what the set-up would be, what to do and what not to do.”

Beasley later says that he feels “Duel In The Desert” was a successful event because of URL’s promotion, despite what Teddy Grizzle says.

“I just feel like he had a successful event and it got hot because we mentioned it, we talked about it, we promoted it but if you notice he’s saying all these things but he never said before the event, ‘Hey, Smack [White]’s not coming. URL is not a part of it.’ He led people to believe that it was going to be a URL affiliated event and that Smack was gonna be there. And then after the event was over he turns around and says, ‘They did bad business and they’re not getting the battles.’”

Wrapping up, Beasley says he has no animosity towards Teddy Grizzle, simply asserting that the 22-year-old needs to “mature a little bit” and needs to be able to express his feelings “man-to-man,” and not through other outlets.

“To be honest with you, it’s cool,” he says. “He’s a young guy and he’s getting his feet wet and he’s learning some things so I’m not even mad at Teddy Grizzle. If that’s how he feels about things then so be it. Honestly, the matches that he had were probably matches that I never would have never booked on URL. Not to say anything about the talent that was on the matches, ‘cause there was definitely some talented guys that haven’t been on URL but I don’t know if I would have made those matches. Besides that I have some really dope Proving Grounds battles that need those slots anyway so it’s kind of a blessing in disguise that it didn’t happen. And I think maybe those battles are suited better for another platform.”

“I think Teddy’s a nice kid, he just needs to mature a little bit,” Beasley continues. “And he needs to be able to express his feelings man-to-man. He stood next to me for the whole entire [‘Summer Madness 4’] weekend and said nothing. But then he goes and takes to social media and AngryFans Radio in an attempt to gain fans and sympathy for having a successful event that was pretty much set off by URL energy. So if he feels that he wants to give the battles away, be my guest, I wish him the best. I have no anger towards him. He has my phone number, he can easily give me a call and that’s the end of the Teddy Grizzle situation.”
