Lush One Reveals Tournament For Spot On “Ether” Card

EXCLUSIVE: Lush One says he's working on a contest where the winner will face an established emcee on December's "Ether" card.

BattleRap.com recently spoke with Lush one at HipHopDX’s Hollywood offices to discuss the Fresh Coast/FilmOn “Ether” event scheduled to take place in December at the Belasco Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. While discussing the card, Lush One revealed that the platform will be holding a promo tournament on Nov. 8 in the Bay Area that will give up-and-coming battlers the opportunity to feature on the “Ether” card along with Dizaster and Cassidy.

“As far as the ‘Ether’ event, we’re actually doing something where we’re having a contest at our November 8 event that we’re doing in The Bay area,” explains Lush One. “[It’s] gonna be pretty much just a promo event for ‘Ether’ but we’re having a tournament where anybody can sign up and it’s gonna be for up-and-comers and the winners gonna get a spot on the ‘Ether’ card versus an established name. It’s going to be a cappella [with] three little short rounds. It’s going to be 16 guys in a bracket that we are determining now. Some of them will be given a bye, some of them will have to pay for their spot but they will all be very thoroughly screened … The guy they were going to battle originally was going to be Chilla Jones, it’s not him anymore but it’s gonna be someone of that caliber, flirting with top-tier level. It’s a huge opportunity and we kind of want to show people that, ‘Yes! This is America and anybody has a chance.’”

Also in the interview, Lush One discussed the rapid changes that are happening in battle rap — that he himself is heavily involved in bringing about — saying that “everybody would be fucked” if the current development and growth were to stop.

“I have far more worries, concerns, reservations if I do not make these changes and help usher in a new era and a new way of thinking because battle rap muthafuckas are not making money,” Lush One says. “The business model that has been in place is not advantageous for long-term success and no one is going to be making money. This isn’t going to be feeding any battler rappers’ kids. It’s not going to be keeping any leagues in business and it’s not gonna be entertaining y’all, the fans, if we don’t step outside of what we already been doing and expand upon it. If we weren’t doing this, everybody would be fucked. If I wasn’t setting the trends and wasn’t being the trailblazer the forest would of just exist forever and you wouldn’t be able to repopulate it with new seeds. This is a natural part of order, this is called evolution.”

During Snoop Dogg and Murda Mook’s “Gladiator School” event, both Daylyt and Bizarre hinted at the possibility of battling each other on the “Ether” card. Despite saying he’s “super into” the idea of the battle, Lush One informed BattleRap.com yesterday (Oct. 14) that Fresh Coast/FilmOn are no longer pursuing the battle for the upcoming event.
