Real Deal Addresses Daylyt’s “SquatterGate” Antic

EXCLUSIVE: Real Deal says he wasn’t ready for Daylyt’s “Duel In The Desert” antic, says he’s “battle rapped out.”

Following his battle with Daylyt at BBE’s “Duel In The Desert” in Phoenix, Ariz. on Oct. 4, Real Deal spoke with Tommy from BattleRap.com to give his thoughts on the match.

“It is what it is, man,” Real Deal says about only spitting two rounds, despite having written three. “I’ve been telling people this is my fourth battle in a fuckin’ month ‘cause I agreed on him and I’m kind of battle rapped out. So it’s over with [and] I’ve got some time to fuckin’ finish this record and whatnot. But it is what it is, man.”

On the subject of Daylyt’s now-infamous antics, Real Deal says he expected a more lyrical approach from his opponent.

“Nah, man. I thought he would rap … He’s a really good rapper, bro,” Real Deal explains. “I don’t like the word association shit he does as much, I love when he just raps. Once I’m on the fuckin’ stage and they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s doing a costume,’ it’s like, ‘Ah, okay.’ So he comes out and that was that. I’m not mad either way. Like I said, I got my shit out. It’s gonna look kind of awkward on film which is the only fuckin’ thing about it.”

Later in the conversation, Real Deal says that if he were to battle Daylyt again, he wouldn’t prepare any differently.

“Same way, man,” Real Deal says. “I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not like I’d come out dressed as something … Sometimes when he does it he does very well with it and he does some pretty historical stuff in a culture that’s very oversaturated. I don’t think it hit as hard today … I would prepare the exact same way, man, I honestly would.”

Wrapping up, when asked if he thought Daylyt won the event, Real Deal explains that it depends on your outlook, subsequently saying “he’s the most talked about.”

“If you look at the event, he’s definitely the most talked about performance. It depends what you’re looking for, man … I guess, he’s the most talked about. He was trending [on Twitter] I think, you know what I mean?”

Following the event, Daylyt’s antics were reported on by a plethora of publications including, among others, MTV who spoke with Real Deal over the phone. The Pittsburgh lyricist revealed in the interview that battle rap needs Daylyt because of his entertainment value.
