Music Of The Week: Jaz The Rapper, Murda Mook, Calicoe

Another mixtape's worth of music made by battle rappers.

Fresh off a string of big events throughout September and earlier this month, BattleRap.com returns with another edition of our Music of the Week series.

URL On BET’s “The Backroom”

URL stalwarts Jaz The Rapper, Shotgun Suge, and Tsu Surf stopped by BET’s cypher series for a battle rap special. Jaz kicks the cypher off, Suge brings it home, and Don Demarco gets a couple of his own name-drops in.

Jaz also released a solo video, over the Lil Wayne/Drake "Grindin" beat:

Gladiator School Cypher

While the clip was recorded back in September after Snoop Dogg’s "Gladiator School" event, footage recently dropped of Murda Mook, T-Rex, and Daylyt rapping for more than ten minutes in a hotel-room cypher. Rex sounds hungry throughout, Mook jumps in for a couple of verses, and Daylyt waits until the end to speak his piece.

Calicoe gets his own separate video, rapping right next to Snoop Dogg.

Murda Mook - “I Ain’t Fuckin With Mook”

Flipping a Lil Wayne cosign into a full-out reminder that he’s not to be messed with, Mook dropped off visuals for his latest mixtape cut “I Ain’t Fuckin With Mook.”

A-Class - “That Shit Right”

Baltimore rapper A-Class dropped off a new EP on Monday (Oct. 20) called Nightrider. Produced entirely by Tom Delay Beats, the project “documents A-Class’ experience on the road and in between battles,” the emcee’s Bandcamp says.

On the day of release, Class let loose the project’s first video, “That Shit Right.”

Cali Smoov - “Hawaii Anthem Freestyle”

Filmed in Waikiki and Maikiki, Cali Smoov released a ukelele-fueled ode to the island state.

Verb T - “Medicate”

Rapping over his own production for his Medicated Dreams standout “Medicate,” London emcee Verb T dropped the video at the top of the week.

Manaz Ill - “Sicker Than Me”

Co-opting the beat (and conceptual approach) from Game’s recent “Bigger than Me” single, Manaz Ill released a lyric video for his version last Sunday (Oct. 19).

Classic Pak - “Fuck Ray Rice”

The title says it all. Canibus hypeman Classic Pak reacts to the recent Ray Rice domestic abuse in a statement aggressively directed at the NFL player himself.
