Chilla Jones, Cee Major Break Down "6th Birthday" Battle

EXCLUSIVE: Both emcees recap their standout battle at Don't Flop this past weekend.

Despite three cancellations, Don’t Flop’s “Sixth Birthday Weekend” still turned out to be a great event, with a collection of entertaining and lively battles.

Directly after having BattleRap.com's Battle of the Night on Day 2 (which ended up being the headliner after Tony D vs. Unanymous was postponed), Chilla Jones and Cee Major spoke with us separately to discuss the battle.

Chilla Jones, who made his Don’t Flop debut at the event, says he enjoyed the battle and that Cee Major was on his A-game.

“It was definitely a dope battle,” Chilla says. “Man, Cee [Major] is dope. He’s dope. He definitely brought it. I’ve watched a few of his most recent battles and he definitely brought his best shit tonight.”

Chilla applauded Cee Major for his very angle-based approach to the battle calling it a “smart tactic."

“I mean it was cool,” Chilla says of his opponent’s material. “It was alright. The angle about me going to private school [was okay]. It’s absolutely true but that’s not something I’m ashamed of. I’m very intelligent as a result. So, I went to private school, I also work a job. I’m a normal fucking human being [laughs]. But it was dope. As far as getting the crowd to react live and getting the crowd on his side it was a very smart tactic so I understand why he did it. I don’t know how it’ll stand up on camera but I think it was effective live.”

Discussing the crowd’s reaction to his own material, Chilla says that some in the crowd were sleeping on him but subsequently says that he felt his “highs” were better than his opponent’s.

“They slept a little bit,” Chilla explains. “There were some people that were on it and then there were some people that slept which I’m used to in a sense but at the same time I feel like my highs in this battle were higher than Major’s. I feel like Major got more consistent reaction overall so [it] kind of depends on what you like, man. I think he was more angle-based with bars mixed in and I was just bar, punchline, scheme. I think it’s gonna be a preference battle on camera [with] what you like, man. It was a really dope battle, man. It was a great debut.”

Chilla took to Twitter after his battle:

Cee Major (who also released a new video supporting his Humble Beginnings EP this week) says he was happy with his performance and the crowd’s reaction.

“It was sick, man. The crowd seemed to really rock with me and Chilla so yeah, man, I’m happy with it.”

Wrapping up, Cee Major said he picked up some tricks from Chilla’s performance.

“Good, it was good, man,” Cee Major says. “I learned a couple of things off Chilla still. I can’t reveal [what] but I’ll show you in my next battle. I’ll let the actions do the talking.”
