Spit Dat Heat: Bringing Battle Rap To The South

Spit Dat Heat CEO Miltown Bloe gives BattleRap.com his picks for the league's Top 3 battles.

Speaking one-on-one with BattleRapNews, Miltown Bloe, CEO of Atlanta-based battle league SpitDatHeat, discussed bringing the scene to the South and why the platform is the avenue for battlers living there.

“With SpitDatHeat I’m trying to bring it to the essence where people didn’t think it could go,” Miltown Bloe explains. “[When] people think of the South all they think of [is] big booty females, dope beats and people who aren’t lyrical. I wanna bring that respect issue that they been fighting for for so long [and] show them that there’s people out here that’s dope, bro. That got lyrics, that got bars, that can do schemes [and] that can do anything that y’all are fans of if y’all just took time to listen. They just need an avenue to push it through and I’m that avenue, SpitDatHeat is that avenue.”

The Atlanta battle scene has seen some revitalization in 2014. In addition to Spit Dat Heat, the city also hosted Snoop Dogg's "Gladiator School" and U.K. league Don't Flop's inaugural American event.

Miltown Bloe subsequently says that he wants to nurture his emcees so that they eventually become as popular as some of SMACK/URL’s top battlers.

“I feel like that’s my job,” he continues. “If I’m gonna have a league, then I’ma make sure I showcase that. And show the world that there’s people in the South that y’all gotta respect. Our focus is making sure [that] our emcees get the shine that they need to become a brand and be able to make y’all like them like y’all would like a Hitman Holla. Like y’all would like an Aye Verb. Like y’all would like a John John [Da Don]. A lot of other leagues — I don’t know if that’s what their goal is — but I know that’s what ours is and we showcase that in our battles and in our content that we really push for our emcees to shine.”

His plan has worked, with both Brizz Rawsteen and T Top (up-and-comers who cut their teeth in SDH) making the roster for Season 3 of 106 & Park's "Ultimate Freestyle Friday."

BattleRap.com reached out to Bloe to get his picks for the league's three most "essential" battles. Here are his picks:

John John Da Don vs. T Top

Chef Trez vs. Fliiko L, which was part of BattleRap.com's Top Battles Of October 2014.

Tone Montana vs. Super Writer

The league’s most-viewed battle is Daylyt's clash with CT. The match-up went down in April 2013 in Milwaukee.
