Daylyt & Pat Stay Face Off At "Flatline 3" Press Conference

EXCLUSIVE: Daylyt speaks with BattleRap.com about his thoughts on the press conference.

The day has arrived.

Pat Stay vs. Daylyt battling in Toronto for the King Of The Dot title in what is easily one of the biggest match-ups of the year. (And BattleRap.com will have live updates from the scene.)

Leading up to yesterday's press conference, it felt like both combatants weren't really taking the battle all that seriously. Daylyt was doing his regular eight hours/per day of Internet trolling and both he and Pat were making a lot of public faux-homosexual advances on each other.

That changed last night.

Both were mostly serious in answering questions. Pat went on a few good rants and cracked some jokes but there were also moments where it was clear that he was inspired to win. Daylyt stayed stone-faced, speaking cryptically, dancing between nonsense and Zen enlightenment with answers such as:

"The question is Pat: how are you gonna beat me at losing?"
"This battle means a lot to me. This battle means nothing to me."
"My weakness is that I don't have a weakness."

At times both before and after he was at podium, Daylyt was alone in a quiet corner of the club going over his bars. Or at least, he was probably going over his bars. It's also entirely possible that he's gone mad and was just pacing and muttering to himself like someone you'd avoid eye contact with on a bus.

After the official press conference, BattleRap.com got Rone to chat with both emcees to get their thoughts on the exchange.

Several other faceoffs happened last night, including one that paired an uncharacteristically cocky, shit-talking Chilla Jones with a humble Dialect.

Tycoon Tax and Rosenberg Raw also traded insults before Daylyt asked Tax: "I want to know what gives you the right to say the word 'nigga.'" Tax made his case for using the word in an explanation that included him saying it repeatedly. Day backed down, ending the standoff (for now?).

As has become customary at these KOTD press conferences, the questions for the Q&A portion of the night came mostly from other battlers and KOTD staff. Some highlights included:

"What if he grips your face like a little baby?" - Pat Stay's opening question to Tax & Rosenberg
"I heard Drake likes you. What's that like?" - Rone to Tax
"Dialect, you're currently being subtitled on the livestream. On a scale of 1-10, how offended are you?" - KOTD staff member Sandeep
"Are you [and Pat Stay] down for a threesome?" -Daylyt to Rone

Rone and Charron both went up solo, still waiting for their opponents to arrive in Toronto.

Charron. Charron.

As always, Rone's pre-battle smack talk was top notch.

Three of the five scheduled GZ battles went down. U.K. emcee Flexplicit was in the building and said him vs. ZM may happen on Saturday's card. None of the participants of the 2-on-2 were in attendance, and it seems that Lotta Zay had border issues after his trip to Don't Flop last weekend.

Kaveman Brown made a strong case for himself on the main stage with one of the best natural flows to grace the GZ stage since well, ever. Copasetic, a standout new talent from the Vancouver division who clearly studied at the Tricky P School of Performance and Comedy, had the crowd rocking with him by the end, but his unorthodox style took some time to warm up to. Unanimous decision went to Kaveman.

Aftershock vs. Step Easy was a throwback to the early days of KOTD and lived up to its potential despite a few slips on both sides and a crowd that was unfortunately more interested in the bar than the bars. Both emcees brought intricately crafted multi-laced lyrics, Aftershock focusing on haymakers and an aggressive performance, Step peppering in clever jokes and flurries of jabs.

Talksic vs. Doc T was the first battle of the night. Both were standouts from the most recent KOTD tour and Talksic made the main channel with a 2-on-2 freestyle battle against Charron and DNA. They both had significant chokes, but pulled it together by the end of the third. They also went for two rounds of overtime, though the judges had already given the $600 battle to Talksic after the third.
