DNA & Cruger Recap "Sixth Birthday" Battle

EXCLUSIVE: BattleRap.com caught up with DNA and Cruger after their Don't Flop battle in Leeds, England on Nov. 15.

Even with plenty of exclusive "Flatline 3" coverage already on the site, BattleRap.com is still catching up with all of the battles and news that broke at last weekend’s Don’t Flop event in Leeds, England.

With the battle between DNA and Don’t Flop co-founder Cruger picked as our favorite from the event's first night, we spoke with both emcees following the match-up to get their take on the performances.

DNA Details His Style Clash Battle Against Cruger

DNA will be the first to admit that he’s faced off against a certain type of opponent in recent months and Cruger was the latest style clash for the New Yorker.

“I think it was a classic,” DNA said. “I think it was a good battle, probably one of the best battles I’ve been in in a long time and definitely, hands down, all year. So that was one of my best performances and I feel like Cruger had a good performance too.”

DNA seemed to appreciate the continued opportunities to battle opponents with different styles and went on to speak about his positive experience with the Don’t Flop league and battlers.

“When you battle as much as I do it’s really hard to come up with innovative angles and different ideas but because Cruger has humor and he’s also witty, he was able to take stuff that was old and put it in a good way. The other two people that I battled [Sketch Menace and Sonny Bamboo], the angles that they used and the way they was putting it it didn’t really hit that much. I feel like out of all three of them Cruger was the best. But I think it’s moreso a style clash. People get tired of seeing DNA vs. a Tay Roc or DNA vs. a Ill Will or DNA vs. a Hitman. It’s more interesting to see what would be brought to the table if DNA faced Cruger. Both times I battled people from Don’t Flop, me and Eurgh had a good battle. That’s two totally different styles. And me and Cruger, it’s a dope battle too. Eurgh knows what he’s doing. He’s getting his people killed.”

Cruger Explains His Sporadic Battle Schedule

“I was really happy with it. I’m glad DNA came at his best and that’s what I wanted. I think when you put DNA against good opponents you get the best out of him. It was just back and forth. It was crazy man.”

His latest battle against DNA was Cruger’s first in more than a year with his last solo battle being against Conceited all the way back in April 2013. Addressing the gap in match-ups, Cruger described his apprehension for taking battles but also detailed his affinity for the performance aspect itself.

“I just don’t really take battles as much now, it’s just like a hassle,” Cruger said. “I always say, ‘I’m never gonna battle again’ after I take a battle but then I end up battling again. But it’s so good when I do it. The writing part is always stressful. I don’t think I’m gonna come up with the bars until the last minute but I always get there in the end. As soon as I do the battle and I get all the reaction from the crowd and feedback, it makes you realize what you do it for. I do love it but I don’t know when I’m gonna battle next but I’m gonna take it easy and see what happens.”

During the interview Cruger also spoke about the progression of Don't Flop, the possibility of getting investors involved in the league, and more.
