Daylyt Says He's Battling Cassidy Next

EXCLUSIVE: "The money is already there," says Daylyt about a match-up against Cassidy at a future FilmOn event.

While news of the botched Cassidy vs. Dizaster battle went mainstream over the weekend, FilmOn put on a successful, true-to-the-culture follow-up battle last night (Dec. 7) in a car garage.

Despite persistent microphone issues at the original "Ether," the event had its standout moments until the headline battle and venue were shut down prematurely. Watch Daylyt address the event, his own battle against Serius Jones, and what’s next for him in our post-event interview below.

“Like I told people yesterday, it was an epic fail,” Daylyt said in an interview after the rescheduled main event. “If battle rap would have left at Cassidy vs. Dizaster yesterday, it would have been an epic fail. Based on why it was an epic fail was because battle rap was not designed for big venues like that. This sport started in a small circle and that’s where it should die at, a small circle. If battle rap fizzles out, it should fizzle out in a small circle.”

Breaking down his view of big-league involvement, Day detailed why the car garage setting was a good fit for the final battle.

“This is what I want to tell leagues and league owners: this is a prime example of battle rap [needing] to go back to its purest form,” he said. “Just like this. This shit felt so hip-hopish. It felt like everybody was like — that’s how battle rap should be man. I think as battle rappers, and this goes for SMACK, Organik, URL, I know everyone’s trying to put in and double their money with ticket sales, but all of us need to take one for the team and do a small room event, just for the footage. Just to throw battle rap back up.”

As for the battle itself, Daylyt thought it was “debatable all the way through.”

“Like I told Dizaster, [he] was like, ‘Do you think I did bad?’ I was like, ‘No, because you did what Dizaster fans like. They like when you freestyle. They like when you go into your crazy multi-sylabs. You impressed your fans and Cassidy impressed Cassidy fans. That’s what’s gonna be the debate.’” Day said. “I told Diz, ‘Let’s say if you wouldn’t have freestyled, you would have had fans like, “Oh, fucking Diz didn’t freestyle none. He loses points for not freeing.”’”

“Battle rap itself won tonight,” he added, a complete 180 from his initial reaction to the first night's battle. “It’s gonna do numbers and it actually helped the culture.”

As for his own next steps, Daylyt announced that he himself would face off against Cassidy at the next major FilmOn event.

“The money is already there,” Daylyt said. “He said he wants double the chicken, the money is already there ...Daylyt vs. Cassidy will go down at the next FilmOn event.”

Near the end of the interview, Day also opened up about a personal tragedy that took place the night of the initial event.

“Last night, one of my close relatives died right after the battle,” he said. “Only reason why I came to this battle was to get over my mind from thinking about that shit.”
