Bigg K: "I’m Better At Everything Than Anybody"

BattleRap.com caught up with one of 2014’s most prolific performers.

Bigg K stopped for an interview on the red carpet at FCMG/FilmOn's recent "Ether" in L.A. to talk about the event’s impact, where the culture is headed and how his year has been — a year that has seen him take on The Saurus, Arsonal, Danny Myers, Aye Verb and B Magic.

He gave his thoughts on the spectacle that surrounded "Ether" where Dizaster vs. Cassidy took place, proving to be arguably the biggest rap battle yet. “It’s pretty fucking weird bro,” he said. “In a sense it’s good, y’know what I mean, for what’s happening, but then when like people interview you and they don’t know what the fuck’s going on … there’s always pros and cons.”

He also felt like the culture wasn’t really about the excess. “Do you think the culture needs a red carpet, bro?” he asked, “No. No. That ain’t what the culture’s about, no red carpet. The culture don’t need the Belasco Theater to battle in. The culture battles right over there.” He does however see some personal benefits in it. “The bigger it gets, the more money it generates. So that’s better for me, right?”

Bigg K is open about regarding himself as one of the best in the world. His confidence was high before that night's battle with Conceited (which you can watch here), which was widely regarded as one of the event's highlights. "I’m better at everything than anybody,” he said, “I’ve probably had one of the fastest rises in battle rap history, to be honest with you. I know for a fact there’s nobody that came in the class I came in that’s doing what the fuck I’m doing right now.”

That class, he maintains, includes the likes of Chilla Jones, Danja Zone, Johnie Alcatraz and Ill Will, who will be his opponent in a much anticipated clash in Boston next May.

Bigg K appeared on AngryFans Radio recently and spoke about the Ill Will battle and later hinted that his biggest battle to date was happening in 2015. "Y’all gon’ definitely hear bout this … Hell yeah.” He confirmed that it would not be an industry rapper. The Angryfans hosts suggested Tsunami Surf, Tay Roc and Steams for the coming year, and, true to form, Bigg K responded that he'll clash with “whoever they come through with." He adds: "I feel like I’d kick all they fucking ass. I would battle anyone in the world. I would battle Jesus.”

Having reaped this success without battling on the URL for two years seems to contradict the current stance by the flagship league that it is the only format that matters. Bigg K posits that “the platform is never bigger than the artist. 'Cause without the talent that platform ain’t nothin’… Everybody needs each other."
