Aspect One To Work With SMACK/URL

Aspect says he’s still got love for the staff at King Of The Dot.

After years of working with King Of The Dot, Aspect One recently announced his departure from the company and revealed a new affiliation with New York-based battle league, SMACK/URL. During an exclusive interview with BattleRap.com in Hollywood from last November, Aspect said the staff at URL reached out to him and are lining up a potential SMACK platform on the West Coast.

“I don’t want the ground to break open but I’ve been reached out to by the one and only URL staff,” Aspect One explains. “They want me to come onto the staff. We haven’t really ironed out the details of what I’ll be doing or whatnot but I know it’ll be something on the West Coast and it’ll be something dope. There’s a lot of cats that are just loyal to SMACK so maybe it’ll be an opportunity for some of those guys to come out on to the West Coast and be a part of Fresh Coast but not necessarily on different platforms because they’re signed into contracts.”

Discussing his departure from King Of The Dot, Aspect says he is moving on to other ventures.

“I love my homies at KOTD,” Aspect says. “It’s never gonna be a diss, I’m never gonna slander these cats, I will never do that in the world. Whatever happened between us on that personal level is off the record, I don’t have shit to say about it to get some kind of fame or to talk some kind of shit. But, I don’t work there anymore. I quit. I’m moving on to something else. URL being able to come to the West Coast and work with us is a big thing. I look at it as though the Fresh Coast is big enough to have URL come out here. It’s a different crowd of people and it’s different people that are watching the battles or whatnot.”

Addressing the possible backlash from such a move, Aspect One says he’s entitled to his own movements.

“If cats get mad then honestly, you shouldn’t have fired me,” Aspect says. “If you are frustrated with me as a worker or whatever, [then] I get it. Whatever happened with King Of The Dot happened but I’m entitled as a human being to my own moves. I’ve always been a battle rap fan. I’ve been a part of my culture on the West Coast since '94. Can’t no one take the away from me.”

Aspect will be co-hosting the Las Vegas Proving Grounds event with KG The Poet on Feb. 28. Here's the full flyer:
