The Saurus Speaks On “Battle Of The Bay” History

The Saurus also gives his pick for the top battler of 2014.

Although Teddy Grizzle/KOTD's "Battle Of The Bay 7" saw a string of successful battles go down last week, including the main event between Arsonal and Mistah F.A.B., the event did experience two last-minute cancellations due to time constraints at the venue.

One of those battles, The Saurus vs. Bender, was rescheduled the next day (Jan. 24) in a field overlooking San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

BattleRap.com caught up The Saurus immediately after the news hit that the match wouldn’t be happening on Day 2 of the event, to get his thoughts and to look back at the BOTB legacy in battle rap.

The West Coast emcee also spoke on his preference of battling in a small room over the main stage.

“I like the idea of it, yeah, for sure," The Saurus said regarding small-room battles. "I wouldn’t be opposed whatsoever and I wouldn’t ever go into it expecting it to have a negative effect on the battle. I think it is a good thing to break the monotony of what’s happening so much these days and to do something a little different. And, when you have either a parking lot or a small [room] type of feel, it’s a way more intimate vibe to it. People are more engaged and involved. You don’t have to worry about people at the bar shutting the fuck up, everybody who is in the room is there. It was the same shit with Illmaculate and Ness [Lee], everybody was there and they wanted to be there.”

BattleRap.com also caught up with The Saurus at FilmOn/FCMG’s “Ether” event early last month to get his thoughts on battle rap in 2014. He revealed his picks for battler of the year and an unexpected choice for battle of the year.
