Rone Previews Don't Flop Philly

Battler and event co-organizer Rone gives BattleRap.com the details of the March 29 event.

Big battle rap is coming to Philadelphia.

On March 29, Don't Flop, Europe's biggest rap battle league will be having its inaugural event in Philly. From 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. this Sunday at Underground Arts (1200 Callowhill), you will be able to see rappers from across the city and country trading bars.

Based in England, the Don't Flop battle league has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity. The young company combines a gritty, underground feel with a true grass-roots following.

This is their second event in the United States, and their first time in the City of Brotherly Love. This will be the biggest battle event that Philadelphia has ever seen, with a diverse card full of talented battlers.

Among the headlining battles will be former Bad Boy recording artist and local son E Ness, who will be making his return against Norristown's Bill Collector, an original spitter and fan favorite. Both bring unique rapping tactics in mirroring, rhythmic styles.

Another native of Philadelphia, Tech 9 will bring his comedic, calculating style against Newark's Shotgun Suge, a self-proclaimed bully. The two have had beef brewing for years and will finally get to settle their differences on the Don't Flop stage.

Philadelphia veteran J Dose makes his highly anticipated return against New York up-and-comer Prez Mafia. Dose has a classic Philly style of rapping and has been a part of some of the biggest battles in the city's history. Prez brings his own brand of powerful delivery in what should be an interesting clash of styles.

The comedy will continue in another Philadelphia vs. Newark match-up, as Uno Lavoz takes on O-Red. Lavoz has traveled the world offering his comic stylings, and he will need every bit of them as he takes on the seasoned veteran O-Red.

Norristown sends another savage rapper to the stage in Rosenberg Raw [UPDATE: He's from North Hills actually], against the smooth Cityy Towers. Both have strong resumes across a wide array of leagues, and both bring the know-how to win.

Representing Chester, veteran rapper ZM will bring his well-rounded approach against Stockton, Calif. rapper Heartless, who is best known for his innovative wordplay. Both will be making their debut on the local stage.

JR Slander of New Jersey will take on Massachusetts' Celebrity Cell in a warm-up match between two hungry spitters.

Finally, Los Angeles native Daylyt, will bring his headline-grabbing combination of antics and bars against myself. Unbelievably, it's my first ever on-camera battle in Philadelphia, and Daylyt is a more-than-worthy opponent both in his rapping skill and notoriety.
