Prez Mafia Steals Verse, Gets Killed By Internet

The web enters bully mode after hearing the rapper's round was ripped from a 2007 track.

Plagiarism is frowned upon in battle rap — Arcane's career after the "BarGate" scandal is solid confirmation of this. But Bronx spitter Prez Mafia went a step beyond ghostwriting when he lifted an entire verse (and hook) from Mr. Meredith's 2007 tune "Snap Out Of It" in his recent clash with Dynamite on SupaNova Battles. Here's the video revealing the situation, which dropped on April 7:

Prez built up some buzz in 2014 with high-profile co-signs after his URL battles against Steams and Mr. Wavy and an appearance on BET's "Ultimate Freestyle Friday" but since parting ways with the league late last year, Prez mainly stayed active on smaller platforms, and was in hot water with fans after a string of no-shows and cancellations. Prez hasn't commented on the scandal and is currently locked up, according to a BattleRap.com source with knowledge of the situation.

Needless to say, the Internet has not taken kindly to the news of the stolen verse. AngryFan's glassware had a particularly active day as a result.

Then Twitter erupted:

Then more footage came to light showing how he recycled a whole verse against Johnie Alcatraz from an earlier freestyle video.

Then the #PrezMafiaChallenge started. The fad saw people in the battle community delivering famous verses into their webcams while impersonating Prez's signature raspy voice and hand gestures. Most of the videos are floating around Facebook groups (and therefore impossible to embed here), but here's a pick from YouTube:

And what's a battle rap scandal without a good meme?

Will Prez be able to recover from this? Perhaps Dizaster summed it up best:
