Rone & J Dose Talk At Don't Flop Philly

The two Philly emcees shared their thoughts ahead of their (ill-fated) battles.

In an interview recorded before both of their match-ups went sideways, J Dose spoke with Rone at Don't Flop Philly on March 29. Dose had been out of the battle rap scene for more than a year and was scheduled to take on Prez Mafia, who no-showed the event.

Fellow Pa. emcee Z.M. stepped in to replace Prez, since his opponent (Heartless) had also canceled.

In the interview, Dose discusses his last battle with Showoff in March 2014, which was a similar experience of having to prepare for a battle in a short amount of time after his original opponent backed out.

“For those that saw my performance and was like, ‘Damn, Dose was fucking up, wasn’t fluid,’ it’s because I only had a week and a half to prepare man,” he said.

Being a rapper from Philadelphia, J Dose expressed his excitement to battle at home.

“I remember battling back in Philly before I moved to Atlanta and it was nothing like this,” said Dose. “It wasn’t a league, it was basically a scam type battle and said if you won you would get like ten thousand dollars … I happened to get five hundred dollars but it was cool.”

Dose also mentions that his pre-battle nerves are different than everybody else's because he got shot in the spine and got a bullet stuck in his C-2 vertebrae.

“It fucks with my nerves tremendously, especially if I’m cold and nervous at the same time. It’s overwhelming,” said J Dose.

The battle between J Dose and Z.M. hasn't dropped yet, but here are some reactions from the night of the event and the PPV release.
