Cali Smoov & Danny Myers Recap Their Battle

The battlers reflect on their one rounder at KOTD's "Back to Basics."

Danny Myers and Cali Smoov faced off in a one-round battle to kick things off at KOTD's "Back to Basics" this past Saturday (April 18).

Shortly after the battle, Rone caught up with both Myers and Cali Smoov to get their post-bout thoughts on their opponent's performance and their own upcoming developments.

Check out the interviews below.

Danny Myers: "It Might Be Able To Be Debated"

Danny Myers is known for taking and hunting down battles for himself, but, he says, it's not really about a winning.

"It was dope," he told BattleRap.com. "I never care about the win or the loss. I always care about if the fans liked the battle and we definitely put on for them."

Still, confident as ever, Danny gave props to Cali Smoov but called the battle in his favor without pause.

"Bar God of course," he said when asked who won. "I feel like Cali Smoov did great. It might be able to be debated. Maybe not. I think I definitely won the battle. He did real great though."

As for his planned battle against T-Rex, a match-up he went into his own pocket to secure, Myers confirmed that the battle has been rescheduled and will take place on URL's main stage.

"Yeah, it's gonna be on the main stage, URL," he said. "They're locking in the details right now. They're gonna be dropping a trailer soon. It's going down ... Rex is dead. Rex is gonna fucking pay. He's gonna pay. I paid $12K, he gonna pay $12K in his soul."

Cali Smoov: "Danny Myers Is One Of The Best"

Cali Smoov, still injured from a recent car accident that claimed the lives of a pair of close friends, called Myers "one of my personal favorite rappers" in our interview and seemed proud of the hometown reception he received at the event.

"Danny Myers is one of the best. He's one of my personal favorite rappers, period. Leading up to this it was definitely some anxiousness. But as soon as I got that first word out of my mouth it was cruising from there. The crowd rocked me with. L.A. showed me crazy love. It was a blessed feeling."

Speaking about the format and approach of the battle, Smoov also explained putting his friendship with Myers aside to return to a style of battle rap he remembers as a kid.

"What me and Danny agreed to do, since we're at 'Back to Basics,' we agreed to drop our friendship," he said. "As soon as that round start, we agreed to leave our friendship completely behind. Just go to work, say whatever we wanna say. Just take off all the gloves and go raw. Tonight they got a pit-fight. I feel like KOTD doesn't have too many of those authentic, real pit-fights like that. I'm glad that they bring it back."

Breaking down his next steps in the battle rap world, Smoov seemed unsure about the future of FilmOn's "Ether" but explained his hopes to continue on with the brand and attached reality series.

"I never know over there," he said. "Hopefully something comes up out of that situation. I battled at the first 'Ether.' I know Lush One is over there working every day. I know he's pushing. We're working on a new reality show that's on the Dish Network, it's on DirectTV right now, it's called 'Road to Ether.' I'm featured heavily on it."
