Charlie Clips Accepts Top Male Battler Award

"This is my life," Charlie Clips says. "I breathe it."

Better late than never.

The BattleRap.com year-end awards are finally in and you can check out our full list here. A not-so-surprising spoiler alert, Charlie Clips wins the Male Battler of the Year award (as well as one other coveted accolade on the ballot). Bigg K garnered the second-most votes in that category and Danny Myers tied with Daylyt with 12% of the votes for a shared third place.

We caught up with three of the battlers over the last few months and got their thoughts on the landscape of battle rap as they relate to those awards. Check out the interviews below.

Charlie Clips: "I'm Truly Humbled"

At URL's "Rookies vs. Vets" event we sat down with Clips to let him know about the award and get his reaction to winning the top honors on our inaugural list.

"That's a blessing," he said. "I'm truly humbled. I appreciate that as I try to help the culture keep growing. I know people look at me [like], 'This guy always talking about [that].' I'm so serious about that. I'm the type of person to finish my career out and still be involved. I don't care how I gotta be involved. I'm always going to be involved in battle rap. This is where I came from. This is my life. I breathe it. To win those two awards is truly a blessing. Thank you so much to everybody that voted for me. Thank you for the nominations and everything."

We're already more than a hundred days into 2015, but it's still kind of a new year in our books and Clips will no doubt have to be a bit more scrappy than he was in 2014 to take home the honors twice in a row.

"Now the thing is, you got that, you see how I played around in a few battles, Daylyt played around and still, look," he said. "I think it's about — it's not what you do but how you do it when it comes to battle rap. I definitely did bullshit in a lot of battles and I apologize to the fans once again for that. I'm not trying to do that no more. Even if a battle is not to the best of my ability or is just a situation that I'm taking for a specific reason and not to really go hard for me, I'm still going to bring that shit."

Bigg K: "I'm Better At Everything Than Anybody"

If Charlie Clips is humbled, Bigg K is downright arrogant. In an interview released late last year, the Virginia-native made his case for why he's the best battler around.

"I'm just better at everything than anybody," Bigg K said. "And not Charlie Clips in particular. You could ask me that about anybody."

Still, despite a year that saw him battle Arsonal, Aye Verb, The Saurus, B Magic, and more, Bigg K is nonetheless a relative newcomer on the scene.

"I probably have one of the fastest rises in battle rap history to be honest with you," he said. "I know for a fact there's nobody that came in the class I came in that's doing what the fuck I'm doing right now."

Danny Myers Makes His Case For Being Battler Of The Year

A touch more modest than Bigg K about his chances at winning the "Battler Of The Year" award, Danny Myers still campaigned for himself when we spoke at the end of 2014.

In addition to a partial list of the opponents he'd taken on at that point in 2014, Myers also credited Bigg K as a possible runner-up before claiming he won out when they battled.

"I've been the battler of the year since last year," Myers said at the time. "Bigg K would be the next in line for battler of the year but I'm battler of the year."

Asked why he should be considered the winner over Bigg K, Myers said, "I have more classics this year. I've been the most consistent. And I beat Bigg K in our battle so what do you mean?"
