KOTD Announces Full "Back To Basics 2" Card

KOTD looks to extend the success of its no-nonsense battle rap series.

KOTD has announced the full card for its next "Back To Basics 2" event in Los Angeles on June 27. The card is as follows:

  • Daylyt vs. Danja Zone
  • Head I.C.E vs. Carter Deems
  • JC vs. Psycoses
  • Chedda Cheese vs. RemyD
  • QP vs. 100 Bulletz
  • Cadalack Ron vs. Sicarii
  • Reverse Live vs. Pigsty
  • Joe Cutter vs. Only One
  • Lex D vs. Tricky P

The first edition of the series, held on April 18, succeeded in producing some high-quality battles and took KOTD back to the pit format, with no mics, no entourages and none of the other trappings of "big stage" battle rap that many saw as getting in the way of quality events.

This card mostly ignores the big names (and big paydays) of top tier rappers, instead focusing on emcees who have a proven track record for caring about their KOTD match-ups. It also showcases more Canadians than usual on a Fresh Coast card, featuring Chedda Cheese from Calgary, Pigsty from Vancouver, Tricky P from Toronto and 100 Bulletz from Burlington.

Also notable, it features several rappers who have been away from the KOTD brand for a time. JC hasn't been booked since he no-showed against Rone at "Blackout 4" in early 2014 and QP's spotty attendance record meant that he hasn't battled on an official KOTD card since his clash with RemyD in January 2013. Cadalack Ron hasn't battled for the league since October 2013; he's been dealing with substance issues but says he's sober now.

The headline battle of B2B2 features Daylyt against his "Writers Bloque" partner Danja Zone in a rematch of their 2012 Pit Fights battle. Day typically puts his pen game on display when facing his crewmates (see his battles with Chilla Jones and Ooops) but doesn't necessarily hold off on the antics (see him vs. B Magic and 40 B.A.R.R.S.).

The previously announced — and wildly unorthodox — match-up between Head I.C.E and Carter Deems already set off a substantial debate with fans, bloggers and battlers arguing about whether it was the greatest pairing in recent history or a sign of the Apocalypse.
