Poison Pen On His Role in KOTD East Coast

“[Me] and the King Of The Dot family have been talking a lot,” Poison Pen says. “Hopefully we gon’ move forward and create some more magic.”

Halfway through GZ Battles’ “Checkmate” event in Toronto on May 31, BattleRap.com caught up with long-time battle rap ambassador Poison Pen. We spoke with Pen about his involvement with King Of The Dot as the Toronto-based league looks to expand its operations into the eastern United States, something Pen says he will most likely be involved in.

“That’s the word on the streets,” Poison Pen says when asked about his involvement. “That’s what it’s looking like. [Me] and the King Of The Dot family have been talking a lot. We ironing out a few details. Hopefully we gon’ move forward and create some more magic.”

Later in the conversation, Pen touched on some of the things he has helped introduce during his tenure in battle rap.

“Look at all the things that I implemented and brought to the table that are still being implemented by everyone else,” he says. “[For example], I invented the battle rap pay-per-view. I brought the larger events to New York. The 2-on-2's and stuff that we did are now coming back and making a resurgence. We built almost about 50 per cent of the top guys right now. Look at Calicoe’s first major battle, that was Grind Time East Coast. We brought Calicoe to New York. We brought Rone to New York. DNA came from our try-outs. We innovated so much.”

Following KOTD’s “MASSacre” event back on May 16, Rone caught up with Organik who also addressed the league’s East Coast expansion.

“I think we’re gonna continue to work on the East Coast,” Organik said at the time. “[With] Nikiya [Osborn] and with Poison Pen and make some shit happen here. It’s the beginning of something.”
