As the battle rap community continues to mourn the death of Brooklyn battler PH, the rapper's longtime associates and fellow Team Homi members called into AngryFans Radio last night to pay homage to one of the pillars of the modern era of the culture. Among the guests: Swave Sevah, Poison Pen, Bishop Brigante, Amzilla, Xcel and more.
Swave Sevah, who counts PH as one of his earliest and most avid supporters, explained how the rapper's family and friends are holding up in wake of the tragedy.
"We hanging in there the best we can," Swave said, audibly emotional. "We trying to stay strong for his family. PH's wife is pregnant right now with his daughter. He's got two sons already."
Explaining the often-forgotten role PH played in the development of URL, Sevah also recalled how he helped kick-start the league's first ever event.
"PH is the reason y'all got URL," Sevah offered. "I said it. Niggas want to dispute it, holla at me. I know where I'm at. PH was the first nigga to book Math and Rex. It fell through on Grindtime and that was URL's first event. They picked it up and made an event out of it to compete with what Grindtime was doing...PH started this shit. Him and Drect. Smack was doing the DVDs, no disrespect to Smack 'cause I bought every DVD."
Closing the show, Poison Pen talked about his friendship with PH and how he looked up to him as an artist in their neighborhood in Brooklyn. He also credits PH for bringing him back into battle rap: "He's the reason fucking all of us is in battle rap. PH called me six or however many years ago to bring me back to help facilitate things. I didn't have anything to do with this shit when Grind Time started. He brought me back to this shit. And that's why we talking, because most of these niggas fuck with me because of battle rap. That's solely because of PH."
