Chilla Jones & Prep Recap Their “Redemption” Battle

"This is a body," Chilla Jones says after his return to the URL stage at "Redemption" on July 25.

Chilla Jones and Prep energized fans with their face-off before "Redemption" and the final result delivered on that promise of entertainment, despite being the most one-sided battle of the night. BattleRap.com spoke with both Chilla Jones and Prep to get their thoughts on the battle, and to ask where this puts them in their respective battle rap careers.

Chilla Jones says he bodied Prep

When asked his thoughts on the outcome, Chilla says, “…This is a body,” adding, “[Prep] clearly lost every round in the building. We know what I do on camera. On camera everybody knows I translate marvelously."

Chilla explains that the URL stage motivated him for his return. “The match-up for me wasn’t even about Prep. It was about my URL return,” he said.

Chilla Jones had been away from URL since his battle against DNA at URL’s NOME 3 in 2013. “I'm finally home. I'm back where I started, where I built my name,” Chilla said.

After the performance against DNA, many critics said Chilla's style just didn't work on the URL main stage. He says that's over though. “The Chilla they saw at NOME 3 has left the building. He’s not here anymore.”

Next, Chilla Jones will battle Pass at KOTD’s “World Domination 5”, followed by a match-up with fellow Writers Bloque member Danny Myers on RBE.

Chilla says he's happy with his body of work for the year and is considering taking a break. “I might chill after that I been really active this year.”

Prep says his battle with Chilla was “A Learning Experience”

When asked his thoughts on the battle, Prep admits defeat. “Tonight was another learning experience for me,” he said.

Prep says he intends to return to his next battle fully focused. “From the battle I learned that [the fans] love to be dog walked. You gotta grab them and take them to the water slowly. I get to the punch too quickly,” he said.

Rather than saying that the fans should wait on the footage to see if the battle is debatable, Prep takes the L and says he's ready to move on. “I feel like I lost the battle. I’m not one of those dudes who’s going to get on camera and say, ‘Oh we have to wait for the footage to drop.’”

Prep says he intends to adapt his style and improve. “I’m too smart for my own good man. I write stuff and it's so thoughtful and deep. Sometimes you gotta dumb it down a little bit,” he said.
