Tay Roc & Calicoe Recap "Summer Madness 5" Battle

BattleRap.com catches up with both emcees to talk about the battle, the SM5 crowd and what's next for them.

BattleRap.com caught up with “Summer Madness 5” opponents Tay Roc and Calicoe after the URL event (Sept. 26) to get their thoughts on the battle and the SM5 weekend as a whole.

Tay Roc Says He Took The Last Two Rounds

After getting some sleep and some perspective on the battle, Tay Roc recapped it the next day outside of the Proving Grounds event. “It was crazy, I woke up and I still feel like it was a war, I haven't watched it but I feel good about it. Last night I felt like I took it, I feel like I took the last two rounds to be specific.”

The Baltimore emcee also took time to speak about the O'fficial/Ms. Hustle battle and how the URL crowd played a role. “It was rough, I like O'fficial, I like Ms. Hustle too. The crowd was real rough. I couldn't say the battle was rough 'cause O'fficial don't play, she never comes to play.” Comparing the current NYC/URL crowd to what it once was, Roc said, “The crowd is more into it, it's more disrespectful, it makes it better, it actually shows who's strong enough to stick around. If you can get through that and perform through that than you belong here.”

When asked about Rum Nitty being a possible opponent, Roc said, “Rum Nitty doing his thing over there in the West, if he came over here I'd like to see him.”

Calicoe Recaps Battle & Details Working With Snoop Dogg

Detroit emcee Calicoe also spoke about the URL crowd and how he controls it, “Crowd control, I know how to talk to 'em, to where without telling them, the way I'm rapping, tells them 'no not yet, not yet.' The way I'm rapping is 'no wait hold it' ... BOOM!”

Calicoe also commented on his return to URL after some time away from the league. “It's always great coming to URL, especially Summer Madness ... that energy that the crowd give you, and you know they not playing with you, they want to boo you, when you walk into a crowd that wants to boo you, for a challenging person, I want a challenge so it's definitely fun for me.”

When asked about how his song with Snoop Dogg came to be, Calicoe said “Me and Snoop was in the studio one day and it's just like let's pull the camera out and do a song, it's like regular ... Shout out to Snoop, Snoop know what type of dude I am.”

In the closing moments of the interview Calicoe pointed out the feat he completed in battle rap. “A lot of battle rappers they say 'I wasn't battling I was focusing on my music' I did something new, it's 2015, no excuses, first battle rapper to drop a mixtape and a battle on the same exact day. My mixtape was flawless, my battle was flawless, I didn't slip, I didn't stumble, I didn't do anything, first ever.”
