T-Top, the headliner of URL's "Rookies vs. Vets" event and T-Rex, the veteran whose performance put him right back on the map, caught up with BattleRap.com after the flagship "Summer Madness 5" went down on Sept. 26.
T-Rex: "I'm just trying to get back to where I wanna be"
T-Rex talked about his recent disconnection with the crowd and how he worked differently to draw out the reactions he did against T-Top. "I just went back to my guns, man," he said. "Sometimes you be going through shit in life and you think you writing the way you supposed to and you don't. Everybody have a bad game, it's just about who bounce back."
He was joined for the chat by Conceited, his opponent at the first Summer Madness event five years ago, who has since become relatively famous on MTV2's "Wild N' Out." Rex gave his thoughts on the evolution of battle rap as a whole and the mainstreaming of the culture.
"There's some people you can't take the rawness from. Con is telling you on MTV that he'll let the cannon go. You can't take that from him, you know what I'm saying? ... This is just our life. This is where we came from."
His next bout will be against Marv Won at "Power 2" in Detroit.
T-Top: "Niggas counted out this whole fuckin' card and every battle's been fire so far"
We also caught up with T-Top to talk about his change of style.
"I was on his ass this whole time," says T-Top. "I want the fans to know the drug shit is my shit ... they say it's drug talk, I just say it's real shit reality rap. I just got reality rap and drugs are part of reality ... So when the fans is questioning am I capable of doing some other shit? ... Like, what the fuck you think I got here for, y'know what I mean? So I just wanted to show a different side of me tonight."
As for who won, the UFF Season 3 winner laughed and said "Aaaaah, man, somebody won ... Yeah man, it was a good battle. I feel like I got it ... I feel like I edged every round but it could go 2-1 either way however the fans feel."
He also told us about his new single "Can't You Tell" which is dropping on Oct. 1 with a video on URL this weekend.
Twitter seemed to be pretty amped up about the match.
