Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that Dec. 12 marks URL’s last event for 2015. "A Perfect Day to Die" is a moderate card in comparison to the league's powerhouses this year, such as NOME & Summer Madness, but some of the match-ups still have the battle rap community buzzing all the same. One match-up that was rumored to be on the card but seemed to be missing from the initial trailer was Uno Lavoz vs. Cortez.
Uno Lavoz has been calling out Cortez to battle for what seems like years, but Cortez has continually brushed it off, calling the match-up a waste of his time. Uno dropped a blog recently to voice his feelings on the subject and has even put his career on the line for the battle.
Uno Lavoz: "If you 3-0 me, I’ll fucking retire"
In a video that dropped on Dec. 2, Uno briefly talks about how he doesn't get the respect that his resume would dictate and says that if he gets 3-0’d by Cortez he will retire.
Cortez: "You got a week"
A few days later Cortez hopped on camera to respond, giving his opponent a week. Cortez explained why he doesn’t want to battle Uno, pointing at Uno only wanting attention and never being able to find investors to fund the match-up, but he does offer Uno the opportunity to battle him. If he’s willing, Cortez will battle Uno on URL's December card, giving him one week (from when this blog was shot) to get ready.
Uno Lavoz: "7 Days? You can't do 7 Days"
Uno responded in a very short blog released on URL's channel, saying Cortez can't prepare in these types of short-notice conditions. Lavoz also says he has no problem preparing for a battle in under a week’s time. He accepts the challenge and the battle is now (presumably) locked in for "A Perfect Day to Die" on Dec. 12.
Cortez Says No One Wants To Hear His Rounds For Lavoz
In a blog released on his own channel, Cortez clowns Lavoz by saying that he hasn't been able to run his bars by any other rappers because they have better things to do than listen to someone rap about Uno Lavoz.
Despite the criticism that Lavoz often gets for his unorthodox style and occasionally sloppy performances, he's proven that his comedy-driven content can work on a URL Stage against Young X and Jae Laww. He's also managed to get the best of many vets who got caught slipping over the years. Cortez, meanwhile, didn't shine in either of his two short-notice battles at Don't Flop's "7th Birthday Weekend" last month, but his most recent URL performance against Cyssero was a clear win, so he'll surely want to capitalize on that momentum. Regardless, this is a grudge match that is long overdue and hopefully the short amount of prep time won't stop it from becoming a classic.
