Judged battles are mostly a thing of the past in battle rap, but RBE is looking to change that with its "Starting 5" card on Feb. 27, which will be headlined by Danny Myers versus Swave Sevah.
After an impressive run last year, Rare Breed Entertainment will be starting 2016 with the first ever full card dedicated to crew-vs.-crew battles. Members of Writers Bloque and Team Homi will slug it out against one another in judged battles.
RBE host ARP told BattleRap.com the judging will be done by the audience in attendance. "We are going to do the old school 'crowd applause' judging back and forth until we have a clear winner from crowd vote. Should make for high-energy footage too."
Here's the trailer:
The full card is as follows:
- Danny Myers vs. Swave Sevah
- B Magic vs. Money Bagz
- Big Kannon vs. Xcel
- JC vs. J Murda
- Ooops vs. Mackk Myron
The card features several battlers who have been in the news recently, including Danny Myers (who spoke out about being excluded from TWR's Top 10 Battlers Of 2015 list), Swave Sevah (whose battle with Th3 Saga has finally been confirmed for URL Pittsburgh), B Magic (who says he's retiring after 2016), and Ooops (who is returning after a brief retirement from battle rap that he announced during his last battle on the RBE stage).
In advance of their battle and the event as a whole, Danny and Swave both called into AngryFans Radio for separate phone interviews to talk a little trash on behalf of their teams.
As usual, battlers and fans alike have taken to Twitter after the card's announcement:
