URL Drops Full "Born Legacy 2" Card

The new small-room series features some big match-ups.

URL's first NYC card of 2016 is smaller than usual, and that's a good thing. The league is relaunching the Born Legacy series on March 6, focusing on match-ups that might not necessarily sell out Irving Plaza, but that have huge potential to be small-room classics.

Here's the card:

  • Cortez vs. Chilla Jones
  • Ave vs. Rum Nitty
  • Chess vs. Reed Dollaz
  • Ty Law vs. Cyssero
  • Mike P vs. Tink Da Demon
  • Young X vs. DOT
  • Bonus vs. Nunn Nunn
  • Bangz vs. Jerry Wess

For anyone who's been paying attention to the PG scene, this is a very exciting card. It features a strong blend of standout rookies, sophomores and veterans, and it's going down at Black Bear in Brooklyn (a venue conducive to classics, as we saw with the Perfect Day PGs).

BattleRap.com reached out to PG boss Norbes for the reasoning behind the small-room event. "It preps new talent for the main stage and mixes big match-ups with mid-sized ones so fans can get to know the new names," he said. He also explained that he plans to make the series a regular thing with events in cities other than New York.

The main event between Cortez and Chilla Jones is a long time coming, with the two calling each other out for the last several years. This is the perfect time for them to clash though, with both now at the top of their game.

The card also gives Cyssero, Reed Dollaz, and Young X a chance to make up for their last URL appearances in a smaller venue in front of what should be a more generous crowd.  Their opponents (Ty Law, Chess and DOT, respectively) are all rising stars in the URL and will be looking to keep their momentum rolling. Expect all of these to be hard-fought battles.

Ave vs. Rum Nitty is such a fire match-up that we wrote a full article about it.

Mike P, Tink Da DemonBonus, Nunn Nunn, Bangz and Jerry Wess are all relatively new names, but have been impressive both in URL PGs and in appearances for their local leagues.

March 5 will feature a warm-up card of PGs and tryouts, featuring J Murda vs. Big Hann and much more. Stay tuned to the site for the full line-up.

The league is also prepping for the 2-on-2 heavy "Double Impact" card at Irving Plaza on March 26, which features Tay Roc and Tsu Surf teaming up for the first time to take on DNA and K-Shine.

Asked for any final thoughts on "Born Legacy 2," Norbes said: "In the article, can you refer to me as God?"

"Born Legacy 2" goes down Sunday, March 6 in Brooklyn, N.Y. at Black Bear at 70 N 6th Street. Tickets are extremely limited and will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
