20 Questions With Bedaffi Green

Get to know the standout battler from The Trap NY.

Long Island native Bedaffi Green came up in TrapHouse Battle League (and now The Trap NY), facing such notable names as Danja Zone, Hazey, Brooklyn Carter and Xcel since debuting in 2014. His battle with Gutta is fire and made BattleRap.com's list for the most slept-on battles of 2015. Most recently, he's coming off a well-regarded battle with Profecy at URL's "Born Legacy 2" PGs, and seems to be making all the right moves to get bigger names on bigger stages.

As we continue to roll out our profiles on some of the newer battlers that you should know, here's what Bedaffi Green had to say.

Who are you?
Bedaffi Green, pronounced Bih-Dah-Fee ... (Not "be daffy”). AKA: Be, Daffi, Green, Daf.

How old are you?
In my physical form, 25 years old.

Why do you live where you live?
I live in the hamlet of New Cassel, North Hempstead, Long Island. I live there because that's where the mothership landed.

How long have you been battling/rapping?
I started rapping when I was about nine, so 16 years ago or so. I used to spit over beats on my homie's flip phone lol. Then with time that evolved into me writing down actual bars and eventually goin to the studio. I used to battle on the block, parks, school yards and lunch tables, shit like that, but I didn't do anything on camera till February 2014.

What made you start?
I grew up on the battle culture, SMACK DVDs n whatnot. The older cats around my way used to go hard in the streets with battling, which pushed me to go hard. A lot of em fell back cuz a lot of the battles would go left and end up violent. So I always been around battling, but the final push to actually battle on the real league was my brother telling me I couldn't do it on that level. So I got in touch with ENJ through some mutual friends and told em I was ready. But I didn't get a real battle until I got in touch with [The Trap NY's] NoMercy.

How did you get your battle rap name?
Let's just say. I can't talk about it.

How would you describe your style in three words?
COVERS ALL BASES. I have a lot of weapons I could use to defeat my opponent. I honestly feel that the only way I can lose is if I lose to myself.

What makes you different from other battle rappers?
My aggression, presence, delivery. All that entices an audience live, and my lyrical ability is the gift that keeps on giving when the battle hits YouTube. I write and prepare for everybody differently, so the range in how I can come at you is too broad of a spectrum for opponents to calculate.

What’s your best battle?
My best battle to me right now is vs. Danja Zone, because it was probably the one clear L he took all of 2015, him being battler of the year and all. But the main reason is cuz I did him so filthy that ppl couldn't believe it. They said I was gassed, crowd was biased, he took me light, he was drunk etc. I've heard a million excuses as to why that battle was so one-sided, much respect to Danja, but I smoked his (already questionable) boots.

What was your worst?
My worse performance, I'd have to say vs. Xcel. Even tho I feel I won the first 2 rounds, I was off that battle, it was a lot of reasons that went in to why performed how I did ... But ppl won't know cuz I'm not into giving excuses. So it being a highly anticipated battle and for me to leave room for it to be debateble made me feel like I let some ppl down.

What did you learn from them?
To trust my instincts. I knew what I would do to Danja, and I knew the timing for me and Xcel was horrible. So now I know to go with my gut.

What’s surprised you the most since you started battling?
The fact that it's like wrestling, lol. In WWE the ppl are really jumping and getting hit with punches and chairs and whatnot ... But it's all choreographed, when they go backstage they drink beers n have dinner n shit, it's the same in battle rap. Yeah a lot of the guys yell in each other's face, say they'll kill their kids and pocket tap each other ... But off camera most of these guys are friendly, harmless and wholesome ... They smoke and chill and some of em even write TOGETHER, but put on da show when the cam starts recording. It's the entertainment business, although I respect it it's a lil disappointing as a fan lol.

What’s your favorite battle of all time?
Of all time ... man ... I gotta say JC vs. Clips , even tho it was a 1 rounder, that battle has back to back entertainment. I pick a different winner every time I watch it.

Who’s in your current Top 5?
Lux, Clips, JC, Tay Roc, Dizaster.

Which battle rapper annoys you?
I hate Heartless as a battler, lol. I actually wanna smoke him one day, I hate his delivery. He talkin bout pistols and puttin in work but he sounds like fruit. I don't know him personally, but as a battler I feel that he's wildly overrated.

Who would you battle if you could choose anyone?
This is always a hard question for me, becuause I feel like I can go up against a wide variety of rappers, from the "bully" to the "back packer" down to the "nerd" ... But I'ma say Me vs. Mook, just cuz he the poster boy for battle rap. He battles so seldom so that's the most unrealistic thing to happen for me.

What’s the biggest problem in battle rap?
The biggest problem in battle rap has got to be the lack of organization. Whether it was the leagues that organized and made a super power, or a board that would have some sort of regulation on the culture as far as business and planning. Or even if there was a battle rapper union of some sort. But right now business in battle rap is the Wild Wild West, anything goes. I could take deposit for the next 12 month and choke and no-show ... And there would be no penalty, lol.

How would you fix it?
Work on a board of representatives of battlers, league owners, fans/media. Sit all the major leagues and networks down and discuss the sport and business in all aspects.

What do you do when you’re not battling?
Grinding, taking care of my family n business. I do a lot of work with HipHopIsReal. I would say I'm somewhat of a jack of all trades, I do it all from shoots/editing videos/photos to writing music. I be chillin tho.

How do you want to be remembered?
As a man of my word.
